Tag editor design question

After adding a tag to a resource the tag editor is left in the state shown below (5.2a Beta 3 on Windows 8.1)

From this point it is easy to add additional tags but it isn't clear how one is supposed to exit the editor and to commit the changes.

My initial assumption was that pressing the enter key again would complete this but it doesn't

I have found that left-clicking the mouse outside of the edit box completes the action as does pressing the Escape key.

From a design perspective how is one supposed to complete the process of adding tags?

Thanks, Graham

From what I know, you found the design exactly. Clicking to remove focus from the edit box, or hitting the Escape key, "ends" Edit mode and completes the process.

    Thanks Dylan

Can I suggest that these are not particularly intuitive and that adding another option - that of pressing the Enter key against a blank edit field would also complete the process?

That way I just need to press Enter to complete entering a tag (multiple times for multiple tag) and then press Enter again to complete.

I know, I know. I'm supposed to be beneficently quiet. But one does have to see some irony.

press Enter to complete entering a tag (multiple times for multiple tag) and then press Enter again to complete.

That would assist people transitioning from the current tag editor i.e. consistency.

This should be fixed in 5.2a Beta 4.

Pressing Enter a second time (when tag text field is empty) closes the tag editor.

I'm afraid you just reintroduced this bug with SR 1. I can no longer close the tag editor with either Enter, Return, or clicking outside.[:(]

I'm not sure what you mean. After this issue was fixed, the design was changed so that tags always display the pod. This change was made in Beta 5, and hasn't changed between 5.2a and SR 1.

Perhaps I chose the wrong thread to attach it to, but I mean that I can't easily get from   to . I am fairly certain that Return did that for me a couple of hours ago. Just as a Return in the Title, Short Title or Set Series fields still closes those fields. But of course it is rather later over here so I could be dreaming, but I don't think so.

    I admit I didn't notice it in beta 5.

I like that it makes adding multiple tags easier but do think it would be "tidier" if this were "closed" when just looking at the tags as opposed to trying to edit them.

Not to mention the opportunity to introduce unwanted tags. If I wanted to include multiple tags, I would not hit Escape As it is, Escape will not get me out of the Edit mode. IMO, this is a very poor design choice.

??  You don't see a cursor after entering a tag, or when selecting a resource and clicking in the tag editor to add more tags? How, then, do you know if the box is active or not?

I don't really understand Dylan's link, perhaps because I wasn't at beta at that point and didn't see the multiple versions in real life. I'm also having a hard time understanding what it looks like for you.

I have no problem entering multiple tags, but for me the second screenshot is the closed version, while the first is the active one. And on 5.2a I could hit Return or Enter an extra time and get from active to closed. Now I have to click in the Title, Short Title, or Set Series field to close it, and then hit Return from there to close that field. Or select another resource. Or click in another panel.

As Jack says, an active tag editor when I'm not focused on tagging would be a real nuisance. What if I leave the computer, come back, and start typing, believing the focus to be a note file or something? Given my bad habit of looking at the keyboard instead of the screen, I could do quite a bit of damage before I realized something was wrong.

Sorry - I should have been clearer

I never see a clear box - the "Add tag" is always there.

The screenshot is just after selecting a resource, if I click in the edit box I get a cursor there

    Yes, I got the same

I think the purpose of Dylan's link it to explain that there is no need to "close" the box as the edit action is applied immediately.

Agreed entirely - hence my comment above.

Sorry for any confusion - and I'm not sure I will have totally removed it here[:)]
