Free items and credit cards
i get emails advertising free downloads. When I try to download the book, it requires me to submit a credit card. Why?

Welcome to the forums George.
Unfortunately, it is just the way it is at the moment. What you can do is put your card details in and then order the free book, and then delete your card. You could also put a prepaid card in for your cc details. They might be trying to change the system but I'm not 100% sure about it. There have been numerous forum threads on the topic. I hope that helps a bit.

I thought Logos might be doing a sociological experiment to see how many individual new threads regarding the single, same issue could be started. Perhaps they are in a contest with other software companies to see who can have an issue which results in the most such threads.
Or maybe not...
