IVP Essential References & New 8 Volume Bundle

Hello all,

I have been trying to keep up with the changes to the IVP "Black Dictionaries" and dynamic pricing. I have a specific question that may have been answered already, but I thought that I could get some specific help before I make a purchase.

I was ready to purchase the IVP Essential Reference Version 3 package when I was made aware via this forum (thank you!) that the Jesus and the Gospels 2nd Edition dictionary is only available in the new 8 vol. set. I believe, if i understand correctly, that I have seen that some who have already owned the Essential Reference bundle could purchase the 8 vol. IVP Dictionary Bundle with a dynamic pricing discount. I then spoke with a Logos sales person who said that it does not appear that the two sets are allowed to be dynamically priced. So, I am confused. Should I risk purchasing the IVP Essential Reference Version 3 and hope that I will be able to get the 2nd edition of Jesus and the Gospels and the OT volumes with dynamic pricing at a later date (which the sales person thought may not work)? Or should I simply save up money and buy the new 8 vol. bundle? I really need the new 2nd edition of Jesus and the Gospels soon, so that is the determining factor (well, that and money :-). I might be teaching an Introduction to the New Testament Class soon and would love to have the first bundle to help begin my preparation and then add on the rest of the volumes later when I am able to save up the rest of the money. What would you do?

Your insights will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Stu

Get it! Dynamic pricing will only charge you for the pre-pub price of the 2nd edition.  I think I ended up paying about $32 bucks for the "new" 8 volume bundle, but the IVP Reference Library has much more than just the Black Dictionaries.  It has a bunch of other pocket dictionaries, also dictionary of Biblical Imagery and a Bible Commentary.  So you will not lose any money, plus you get to keep the 1st edition of the DJG so you can compare it with the 2nd edition.  Any doubts call your sales rep or maybe someone else can pitch in.

    Hi Stu

Probably I can't answer your question. I picked up the old Libronix IVP Essentials CD for maybe $100 a couple years back.

When I go to https://www.logos.com/product/8588/the-essential-ivp-reference-collection-version-3 with my cookies turned on, it shows $0 cost (whatever that may mean).

But then I noticed the Logos server un-licensed me on Dictionary of Biblical Imagery on my Libronix, but kept it on my Logos5. So I guess I'll have to track that down Monday.

It is a good series especially for the money (or at least when I got it). I choose not to pre-buy this one in Dec. when it was on sale for $32, now my dynamic price is $43 ish.(I own all the rest of them)

The only thing that I would add is that if you need it soon you may be disappointed if it doesn't come soon. There is in no date on when it will come so it could be next week or next year. I don't know and from what I understand Logos doesn't put out dates unless they are ready to tell us. Just another thought....But it's a good series. All the best.

By the way Stu, the 8 volume bundle includes the OT dictionaries also.  If you don't own any of the OT dictionaries, the dynamic price will be more than $32 ($42).  I forgot to mention that.
