Kindle Fire HD experience
HI, I'm considering purchasing a Kindle Fire HD. I use Logos on my MacBook Pro, but am looking to also have a nice way to have my study resources on the go. The iPad mini would be great, but I just can't quite justify the cost.
I would love to hear from any who use Logos on the Fire HD - what's your experience? how well does it run? are you satisfied?

I'm using a Kindle Fire HDX 7" with 32 GB and it works great. It's actually my 3rd Kindle Fire (traded at each new generation). During the time I have been using a Fire the Android software has come a long way. I have close to 2000 resources on it and there is plenty of room for this, a number other apps and a lot of Kindle books (no music, pictures or video). Still have about have the memory available. This new generation of Fire HDXs has some of the best specs available.

I'm really just looking at the Kindle Fire for purely study and reading. Not a ton of extra apps and distractions. So it sounds like Logos works smoothly on it, which is a primary app I'd be using.0 -
Speaking as an Android user and not as a Logos employee, I'd highly recommend the Nexus 7 over the Kindle Fire HD. You can install Amazon's "Kindle" app on the Nexus 7 and read all your kindle books, plus you'll also have access to Google's suite of apps which are unavailable on Amazon devices (the Google Play app store also has a MUCH larger selection of apps than Amazon's store). I also really prefer the stock Android operating system the Nexus devices provide as opposed to the modified version of Android that runs on the Kindle Fire devices.

Same here, though Laptop L5 is my go-to for much more than reading...
Agree with comments that Android w/b better than Kindle, UNLESS one wants to be in Amazon's universe for kindle books, which I did.

There is always the issue that there is no guarantee that Amazon will allow Logos to be installed the Fire, whereas it will always be available on the Nexus.

We don't know. Amazon has never allowed Vyrso, and Verbum is still not available from the Amazon Store for Kindle HDX devices.
Amazon alone decides which apps they make available from their store.

The Google Play store doesn't have a review process...you just submit your app and it's available. If there is an app that violates their (pretty minimal) program policies, they'll take it down, but there's no official review process before an app becomes available. Amazon individually reviews each app that's submitted (like Apple does on iOS) and if they have an issue, they won't allow the app to be available in their store. Unfortunately, they don't tend to give much information about WHY they reject apps. As Kevin said, our Vyrso app has never been approved by Amazon, and Verbum has not been approved for Kindle Fire HDX devices, but they haven't given us a reason.

This is only an artificial distinction, since we can install apps on the fire directly. It's the same two clicks, and navigating to the Logos site may even be faster than locate it in the Amazon appstore. The only "issue" is the blurred logo in the carousel.

Just a few thoughts regarding the Kindle vs Nexus. If you are not at all interested in any of Amazon's content (not just books, but video, magazines, music) and you are OK with the slightly lower specs on the Nexus, then going that way makes good sense. I have lots of Kindle books (which I could read on the Nexus) but also have Prime video streaming, magazine subscriptions. For me, the Fire HDX came out on top, but that might not be the case for someone else. But I did weigh this when I did my last device upgrade.
Also, you can load other android apps on the Fire by simply allowing it in settings and going to a third party site. I suppose there could be some risks there. But I have Logos, Vyrso and Noit loaded on my Kindle and have them in the Beta update channel. They run fine. I mainly use Vyrso and Noit to give me the ability to keep 4 other books open for reading straight though (2 windows per). That way Logos stays open for Bible study.

Add the Verbum App and you will then be able to keep 6 books open. [Runs on an HDX but needs to be loaded from Logos and not Amazon]
[As of now for the HDX Amazon offers Bible [Logos], Bibllia!, Faithlife Study Bible, Noet Classics and Proclaim Remote]
