Wow. Steep price.

I don't understand this one at all. I have successfully bid on every one of the Classic Commentary Series but this one is not at all in line with the pricing of the others. The only thing I can think is that there are enough people who are really interested in Galatians and willing to pay the extra cost to get it in publication quickly.
I agree with you. Let's get the price down!

The first bidders will have picked this price for reasons best known to them and then almost everyone else bids that price because it is seen as the going rate. The website unhelpfully says "Your bid will not be successful" if you bid below it. I don't think the higher price gets it into production any faster because it attracts fewer bidders. Several of the other sets came on CP after Galatians but have gone into production faster because their price is better.
Most of the series have gone for 80-80% off the eventual price. This one is so far off the mark that I'm not sure it's worth it.

This group is not worth $80 if it closes at that I'll cancel

Your comment confuses me. Why would you need to cancel if you didn't bid $80? And if you did bid $80 what were your reasons?

Completely agree. If you see the chart, many have made bids much lower. But some are driving the price up by bidding high. For me, it is not worth $80. I wish people who reconsider and bid $45 in order to drive the price down. Clearly from the chart, you can see that many have made bids that are smaller. So the possibility of getting this set at a lower price is real if bids were lowered.

Ah, the perennial curse of CP. It's a very logically and efficiently designed system, but I'd imagine less than half its users understand its bidding mechanics.

Doesn't look like my bid of $10 I placed a couple of months ago is likely to succeed then [:D] I really don't understand why people are bidding $80 for this, it is way out of keeping with all the other classic commentaries sets.

Remember, a bid at one amount is also a bid at every amount below it. Lowering a bid from $80 to $45 will not raise the line at $45. Only new bidders (or those who raise their bid to $45 from a lower amount) would make the $45 mark go up. However, if enough people lower their $80 bid, it would prevent it from crossing the line, and delay the end of the bidding process, which means more bidders might come along in the future.

For a second I thought you said, "Sheep price." Unbelievable. Herd mentality at its stupidest. I have no respect for anyone who bid that high. What are you folks thinking????????????
What's worse is that people who have an $80 bid won't reduce it no matter what...denser than dolomite.

But this is CP - if there are enough people to want it that badly that they pay $80 - so be it. I bid only a quarter of that - and thus I may miss this CP. But there's no reason to delay it if enough people want it enough to pay the price (e.g. I'd like Lewis & Short to go over soonest, and I bid the maximum price on the [small] scale, but it seems many aren't willing to pay even the going rate. I wouldn't like people tell me and others to lower our bid just to make it cheaper for those who want every resource for $5).

As was pointed out above, other CPs, which started out with a lower initial bid price, already have gone into production. The higher price actually DELAYS the activation because far, far fewer people are willing to pay nose-bleed prices for these old retreads. If this were peaking at $30 or even $40, it would have gone into production already. I will just wait until this one is part of the next Classic Combo.

Come on you $80 bidders, you're killin the rest of us. That's almost two and half cents a page! Let's shoot for $40 (a solid peak), which is closer to the penny per page standard.

Doesn't make sense that this one's going for $80 when the Pastorals just closed at $13!
My bid is $30. Guess I'll miss out on this one.

Of course each person has the choice to bid whatever they want but I would love to hear from someone who bid $80 their rationale for placing their bid that high.

A similar thing happened with Philippians a couple years ago and we were able to drive the price down to $40. If I remember correctly, some people raised their bids which lowered the price and encouraged more bidders. It would be great if we could do this again with Galatians. Here is the forum link from when Philippians crossed the line at $90.

Thanks for the reminder of this happening in the past. I had forgotten that Philippians crossed over at $90. The encouraging thing is that it finally closed at $40. This gives me hope that it could happen again.

What needs to happen is that the $80 buffoons need to lower their bids...but that would require non-buffoon-ness.
I'm not optimistic. [^o)]

Like all CP's I bid the opening price with the possibility it will go much lower- in the case where it does not- I cancel simple- not hard to figure out. This item should have never even started at $80- but I will give it till 3/7/14- if its not down to a reasonable price tough luck for Logos.

Just changed my bid to $25- I suggest everyone else do the same it will kill the 3/7 date.

Already down to $75 [Y] Only another $65 to go for my bid to be succesful [:)]

Wow, that was fast. I think what happens is those who bid receive an email which causes them to reconsider their bids. Let's keep the trend going.

If those bidding below $45 were to raise their bids to $45 we could all get it for that, even if we attracted no new bidders.
Once we get it down to $45 then new bidders might be attracted and it may indeed close lower.
An alternative tactic is to raise your bid to one step below the current 100% point. That too can help attract new bidders by demonstrating that the price can be brought lower.
Reducing your bid will not help reduce the price; only attracting new bidders will lower the price.

This simply isn't true if the person reducing his bid has bid the highest bid on the board...which should be obvious. If someone has a bid that is lower than the highest bid, then reducing their bid would not affect the higher bids.

Hopefully the lower it gets, the more bidders will be attracted. I'd love to see it go for $40 or lower. There is still a lot of time, so hopefully it can happen.

If the price doesnt go down. this just might be the first classic commentaries I'll pass up. Does anyone know anything about the authors that might want me to up my bid? All the info that is there on the page makes me want to pass it up, not bid higher.

Just passed $65 and heading downwards.....

It would be my first as well but I think that there is hope that it will reach $40 which is the most I would be willing to pay.

We're at $65 - let lower it some more!

$40 is likely my maximum too, but I could go higher. It also depends on what other resources are shipping in the same month.

It's very close to $60 - let's keep it moving.

Probably a couple of bids away I would guess. Still far more than it's worth though IMHO
0 -
I agree - that's why I hope the price goes down a lot more.
0 -
It's down to $60. There's plenty of time for it to reach $40 - it's just above 80%.
0 -
I don't know Logos' "secret formula" for community pricing, but if everyone who bid $20 raised to $30, how close would it get to 100%?
0 -
Looks like the bidding increments have changed too.
0 -
This just recently changed. I like the $1 increments. THANKS Logos!
0 -
The cost must also have been adjusted, because $40 was over 80% - now $52 is at 30%.
I like the $1 increments, but $40 looks to be unreachable now. What happened??
0 -
Okay - I just refreshed my screen again and now $52 is close to 90%.

That is great on a few levels. I think it should cause more people to bid and of course that means more Logos users will benefit too.

I don't see how $1 increments on this set is going to cause more people to bid. If $60 is too much then 59,58,57, etc are all still too expensive. I bid $15 and for 14 pd books, two of them in German, that's all this is worth to me. I truly can't see how people could think these are worth $80 or $60 for that matter. Call me crazy but there you go
I guess the recession is officially over...

Sorry but I don't agree, I think it's detrimental. The lowest bid you can make now is $52 so if I want to increase my current $10 bid I have to bid $52. They should have left the original increments alone and maybe we could have got it down to $40. Just why some people are valuing this set at upwards of sixty bucks is beyond me but, hey, have at it. I'm sure Logos won't be complaining.
0 -
I agree that the $1 increments are detrimental. The reason is pretty simple: people are only going to bid into one of the $5 increments. No one can bid at the $50 mark because it isn't possible to do so.
At the very least, $2 increments would be better.
