When logging into Mac OS X, by default Logos 4 (5) Mac Indexer launches to prepare your Logos Library: indexing, resource, and program updates. Nominally if everything is up to date, indexer checks are done in a few seconds.

Why would you want to stop this action from taking place?

The Indexer is launched whenever it has a task to perform, so it makes no sense to prevent the launch, if indeed that is what the (Mac) wiki means by "Can use defaults command to change automatic login launch setting:". If it is launching every time you start Logos I would like to see logs (as per my other post) as there could be a problem!

It's not happening when I'm lunching logos it's when I'm booting up the computer after it's been shut off all night. I talked to level one tech-support at logos and he said it was a normal occurrence. I just want to keep from checking every time I boot up my computer.

It's not happening when I'm lunching logos it's when I'm booting up the computer after it's been shut off all night. I talked to level one tech-support at logos and he said it was a normal occurrence. I just want to keep from checking every time I boot up my computer.

I've talked with level2 support on this issue…. seems to be no way to keep the indexer from taking over boot-up or when re-starting the Mac. It takes priority over anti-virus at start-up, when re-starting after OS X updates, software updates (not Logos) - making boot-up and re-starts considerably longer. TOO LONG!!! It's more than annoying!

I believe the Logos indexer ought to not be in the way when starting up the computer or re-starting the computer.

It is launched only when needed; so it will only launch when booting/restarting the computer if indexing was underway before the shutdown.

Caveat: the AppleScript application is unsigned; should still work with Logos 5 since the Launch Agent file name is the same as Logos 4.

The Launch Agent file com.logos.LogosIndexer.plist is an XML file. The defaults command using a terminal is one way to edit. Apple also has Property List Editor, which is a development utility.

Yes; have changed RunAtLoad for Logos Indexer using defaults command, Applescript application, Property List Editor, ...

Note: the defaults command with parameters was copied from an open terminal window:

defaults write ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.logos.LogosIndexer RunAtLoad -bool No

Wiki also includes defaults command with parameters to show RunAtLoad for the Logos Indexer:

defaults read ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.logos.LogosIndexer RunAtLoad

0 = No (Not Run), 1 = Yes (Do Run)

By the way, the terminal utility opens a window where text commands can be used to interact with OS X. Caveat: a number of text commands have unhealthy effects.

Apple has a man (manual) page for defaults => https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/defaults.1.html that was useful when learning what parameters were needed to change RunAtLoad for Logos Indexer. The path to the Launch Agent file uses a special character ~ that is an alias (or shortcut) to the user's home folder on OS X.

Later wrote Applescript application that uses defaults command to read and write RunAtLoad => 7418.Logos4MacIndexerLaunch.app.zip

If the Launch Agents file does not exist, then the file is created when Logos Indexer runs. When Logos creates the Launch Agent file, the default is run every time user logs into OS X.

KS4J : Script shows us as broken in my mac, recommends trash can.

I can't use terminal, but would like this mistake by Logos fixed. Not sure they can, complained to tech support before- long time ago. They aren't going to fix.

One solution is using the App Store to freely install Xcode:

then use Xcode to change RunAtLoad in the Logos Indexer Property List:

Older Xcode 3.2.6 has Property List Editor (with check box for Boolean: unchecked = No):

Depending on property list file format, may be able to use TextEdit.

Caution: using TextEdit to modify property list is risky due to ACCYdental tiphoGRAPHical eRRoRs. Property List uses all lower case for boolean value with a trailing /

Screen shot has terminal window behind TextEdit. In terminal these commands were used:

cd ~/Library/LaunchAgents
cat com.logos.LogosIndexer.plist
defaults read ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.logos.LogosIndexer RunAtLoad
defaults write ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.logos.LogosIndexer RunAtLoad -bool No
defaults read ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.logos.LogosIndexer RunAtLoad
cat com.logos.LogosIndexer.plist
exit

The cd command changes directory to user's Launch Agents (so LaunchAgents appears before $ prompt).

The cat command shows Logos Indexer property list settings, which is another way to show modification by defaults write command.

The defaults read command shows current Run At Load for Logos Indexer (silently adds .plist extension to property list).

The defaults write command changed Run At Load for Logos Indexer (silently adds .plist extension to property list).

Note: defaults command properly handles text and binary formatted XML parameter lists.

Since had changed directory to ~/Library/LaunchAgents folder, could have used these defaults commands:

defaults read com.logos.LogosIndexer RunAtLoad
defaults write com.logos.LogosIndexer RunAtLoad -bool No
defaults read com.logos.LogosIndexer RunAtLoad

Thankful that copy and paste can be used in terminal window.
