Offline access speed
First off, let me say thanks so much for offline access. 
Now on to my concern. I was surprised to see how long it takes to jump to a different location in offline books (I've tried several) on my 2G iPod. I was hoping this would go away when the WiFi limitation was removed. Is this something unique to my config or just a limitation in this software revision?

I've tried 5 different resources offline, and the responce time was pretty quick. Turning pages and stuff. One problem area for me when I'm at church is, when selecting a verse using the verse button...it would take a while before bring me to that page/verse when on 3G. Now it is VERY quick doing this.

Can you quantify what quick means to you? When I jump to a random verse in the ESV or a commentary (Faussset/Brown, or New Testament Use of the Old testament) it takes anywhere between 2-5 seconds. I'm comparing this to other Bible programs on my iPod that take at most a few milliseconds to change verses/jump sections etc.

2-5 seconds is an improvement to me, compared to when I'm on 3G and it can be anywhere from 2-15 seconds. When I'm on wifi it is as quick as the data can flow. I would imagine that it could be faster if I had a iphone 3GS or 2nd gen ipod touch (they both have faster cpu, more mem and better graphic chip). That said this is an improvement when I'm at places where I can't get a good substained signal.

I guess its all relative. I only have WiFI access with my iPod and I have WiFi @ home and church. Still, when compared to other offline programs, its still frustratingly slow to me.

I agree with Linden - other Bible programs are much faster when switching to another passage (I too have a 2G iPod touch). I'd like to see a more competitive performance from the Logos tool, which overall is better in features than the others, but frustratingly much slower.

It may simply be a 2G issue. The 3G (32 and 64 gb only) have faster processors I think.

Its true that the iPod 3G and the iPhone 3GS have more MIPS, but the iPod 2G is faster than the iPhone 3G and theoretically should have more than enough horse power to navigate random access points virtually instantaneously. All of the other significant players in the offline iPhone/iPod Bible market (Olive Tree, Laridian, Mantis etc.) can perform this jump instantaneously.
I have more experience with the Olive Tree's BibleReader solution as I have a huge library with it also and BR offers way more bells and whistles (split screens, popups etc.) than Logos does right now, yet verse/chapter navigation is instantaneous. Something isn't right here and its not a hardware limitation.

Agree with LInden. My experience with 1.2 is much slower relative to peers. However, the progress continues in the development of the app so would expect improvement in the future.

I just tested jumping to random spots in the ESV, which I have downloaded. I tapped the VERSE button and chose John 3:16 and from tapping the 16 to it appearing was less than 2 seconds. I said 1 and 2 and the very moment I said two it appeared. It was very consistently that fast.
I then opened Pilgrim's Progress, which I do not have in offline mode, and it responded nearly as fast on my home Wifi network with Cable Internet access 10MB/sec download speed, which means really about 6MB/sec.
I have an iPhone 3GS.

I'm seeing identical numbers with my iPod Touch 2G (~2 seconds to jump to a random location). This is quite good and a big improvement over previous releases.

It appears to me that you are pretty well acquainted with iPod capabilities. I'm just upgrading to Logos 4 and want to load it on an iPod Touch. I plan to use it offline most of the time and so plan to download many of my books. I want to spend as little as possible relative to the iPod and so am wondering about the generation I should buy. Based on the reading I've done so far, it looks like the first generation iPod will do. What do you think?

The Touch 2G is significantly faster than the Touch 1G (its actually faster than the iPhone 3G, but not faster than the iPhone 3Gs). Unfortunately, this means that I can't guarantee you that performance will be acceptable or how much it will degrade. Sorry.
