"Upgrade required" but not really

Recently when I attempt to open the Logos app on my desktop a window sometimes pops up stating that an upgrade is required, even though I already did this several weeks ago (I have Logos 5). But in these instances the program won't open otherwise so I go through the motions of "installing" the upgrade, only to be told that my version is up-to-date.
After this happened the first time I followed the Troubleshooter's directions to right-click and adjust the Compatibility Mode, which seemed to work even though I had to select Windows 7 and I have Windows 8. It seemed to work and I've been able to use the program several times since then, but today it won't open again and compatibility is where I left it. I could try simply restarting the computer but even if this works for now I don't want to have to do this every time this happens.

Welcome to the forums Lewis. Sorry to hear of your troubles, but have you tried repair from the control panel? The other option might be to download the engine (DO NOT UNINSTALL) and see if that corrects the problem.

You can try repairing the program. To do this go to >control panel>programs & features, right click on the Logos 5 icon and select repair.

Hi Lynden - actually this is Terry, Lewis' wife. As my husband is a software developer he would probably be fixing this himself if he were here
. I tried doing a repair but the program still won't open; although I haven't restarted this computer. How does one download an engine (whatever that is)?

This refers to downloading the latest version of the software and installing on your computer.
If there is an installation pending condition this may get through that
The download is available at https://www.logos.com/installation - choose the Windows option

Well as I explained I've done this and received the pop-up message that my version is already up-to-date.

Can you enable diagnostic logging - as per https://www.logos.com/support/logos5/windows/problem - and upload logs after a startup attempt?

Hi Terry
Thanks for posting the logfile.
It says that version 5.1b (shipped in September last year) is trying to launch whereas 5.2 Service Release 6 has previously been installed.
Is it possible that the link / icon you are clicking to start Logos is somehow pointing to an old image?

First thing is to undo compatibility mode settings by deleting the shortcut and creating a new one from C:\Users\terryv.dakara\AppData\Local\Logos5\Logos.exe (right click, select create shortcut and drag it to the desktop). Then try to launch Logos. If that doesn't work try to update Logos as before from http://downloads.logos.com/LBS5/Installer/LogosSetup.exe.

It is quite possible that the icon itself has not been updated, and I had not thought of this. I will try this shortly and let you know.

Okay - it seems that the shortcut I was using on the Taskbar was linking to the old version. The program has opened, so we'll see if it works the next time I use it. Thanks.
It's still odd, though, that I've been using this icon since the update and it's worked intermittently. If this were the problem I would think it wouldn't have worked at all. Strange.

I suspect it is connected to how a new version is installed, in that the old version is not deleted until it is clear that the new version has installed OK! And shortcuts seem to be the most vulnerable should the install otherwise be OK.
