Removing/archiving resources that I dont use

I love my Logos but it's so slow I find I hesitate to use it sometimes. I own a pretty large library from several years of upgrading but as I only occasionally preach presently, I find I dont need many of my resources in general day to day study. I am wondering if there is a way to effectively remove/archive some of the resources that I do not expect to normally use so as to reduce the size of my database and reduce this seemingly constant process of re-indexing, and if that might make the performance more acceptable for day-to-day use?

But before going ahead with that can you provide some more details as that might not be the reason for performance issues?

What spec machine do you have?
Are there performance issues when you are not indexing?
You refer to a "seemingly constant process of re-indexing". Does this happen at times other than when you have downloaded new resources?

Yes in general the interface is sluggish overall. Any sort of search results in 15-30 seconds of lock up and non-responsiveness, scrolling around and switching resources is just subjectively slow and clunky. Switching between tabs of opened bible translations takes several seconds, etc.

My guess - and there are others on the forums who can advise on this area much better than I - is that the speed of the disk is at the root of the problem.

So having a smaller index may help but I couldn't quantify by how much

Do you defrag the disk regularly, and remove temporary files regularly as this can affect performance? How many books in your Library?

I really don't see a 'problem' except the HD speed. A number of years ago (when Logos 4 initially came out) I had the same issues you are having with slow search speeds and sluggish response. I did two things that made a difference: increasing memory from 4 GB to 8 GB and changing my HD to a 7200 RPM unit. Both made significant incremental differences, but the greatest was upgrading the HD. I did not have issues after that. I subsequently had to buy another laptop. It has 8 GB of RAM, 64-bit Windows 7 operating system, and a quad core Intel processor running 2.0 GHZ with a boost to 2.9 GHZ. Yours seems similar except for the HD speed.

Others here have used hybrid drives and SSDs and seem to have greatly improved the speed of their systems under Logos. Based on my admittedly anecdotal experience I think it is not library size but HD speed that may be slowing you down.

One other thing: do you always search all your resources every search or do you use collections to narrow down your searches? With a sluggish system narrowing down your searches should help significantly.
