sync causes me to lose my place in Bible reading

I do my devotional Bible reading on my ipad mini. I find it frustrating when I want to return to the place I quit reading the previous day, and the Bible opens to some place I studied on the computer. I would like it to open where I left off reading the previous day.  Is there some way for this to be done? Or some way to bookmark where I stopped reading?

Presumably, you aren't leaving your bible open on your iPad. Is that correct?
