I am almost done download all 6GB of my library onto my wifes PC laptop. Later this week I'll put alpha on my mac book pro Can I simply copy the library from the PC over instead of downloading the 6GB again?

Yes...I believe that there is a way...
Dave Hooton has posted a way to do this on the windows side but the steps will probably translate just fine to the mac version.
I believe that it's on the wiki page also....see my sig links at the bottom of this post.
As Robert said, Dave Hooton has given some excellent directions for doing this in Windows, and those instructions should work for the Mac, except you will need to find the correct destination folder for the Mac. I don't know what it is as I have never felt the need to search for it.
