BUG: slow or will not open when reception is 1-2 bars
Hi Android / Mobile team,
I'm having issues the past 3-4 months where have 1 or 2 reception bars, the downloaded resources (ESV Bible, Application Commentaries) do not open right away, in fact many times they don't open at all. What I see is just that circle going around and around continuously.
I thought when the resources have been downloaded I shouldn't have any issues opening those books, because the licenses are in the phone too?
I have no issue when the bars are full or I'm on a good WiFi.
The solution for me so far has been to TURN ON the airplane mode to shut down the tower-signal. That way I could open the books right away. (but I really don't wanna do that whenever I read Logos)
Can this be fixed? Thank guys!

Hi mike,
It would help if you could get to the point where the problem occurs and then send us your support info - this will include the most recent log information and might help us track down what the issue is. Thanks for the report!

I can replicate this. Load app. Go to Library select ESV (which is downloaded). Displays blank screen with extended hourglass. Text displays with hourglass frozen & screen frozen for a long time. Once this was followed by an ANR timeout-report sent. The next time it finally loaded after waiting-support info sent.
I thought it might be Notes & Community Notes as turning them off and trying again seemed faster, but then I turned them back on and it's still fairly snappy now. Maybe a cache is updated the first time which is slow because of the connection and after that it refers to the cache? I can't get it to repeat the slow behavior after the first couple of run-throughs.

I can duplicate the initial slow down by selecting another local: resource or by clearing the app cache and relaunching.

how do I send you my support info/log? is there an option/button in the android menu?
I used to use Samsung Galaxy S3 Sprint & now I'm using Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. Both running stock/no root.
The problem occurred whenever I opened any resources whether they're downloaded/not downloaded during low reception (1-2 bars), the resources would take forever to open..(or many times they don't open at all because I got tired of waiting more than 5 minutes)
.
THE SECOND PROBLEM (NEW)
on the mobile Ed.Courses.
the Douglas Moo's Romans is also very slow to open even though I've downloaded the resource into local/phone itself.
It has been doing this since the day I bought the resource.
thank you

Randy, a couple questions:
- What device are you using?
- Do you know the approximate date/time that you sent the ANR report?
- Can you give me any more details about your network connection (wifi, cellular, what type of cellular connection, etc)?

Downloading Mobile Ed resources doesn't download the video files - they are still streamed to your device. If you don't have a solid wifi connection they can be slow.
Incidentally, if you experience a different issue than the one mentioned in the thread please create another thread - thanks!

What device are you using?
This is on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus.
Do you know the approximate date/time that you sent the ANR report?
It was sent just before the support info, somewhere around 1:15-1:30 eastern.
Can you give me any more details about your network connection (wifi, cellular, what type of cellular connection, etc)?
Tested at home where I'm always at 0-1 bar, 3G. I never pick up 4G here and only a bar of 3G. I turned off wifi for testing.

There's an option in the app, under the Help menu to "Send Support Info".

I have a theory as to what's causing this...my guess is that it has to do with the way we're checking to see if audio is available for a resource. This would affect only the ESV and the LEB, since those are currently our only two read along resources. It would still cause slowness if you have the ESV open in one pane and some other resource in the other pane. Can anyone confirm that the slowness/freezing does not occur when there are no resources with audio open?

Excellent theory! The two I tested with previously were ESV & LEB. I just tried a few others and do not see the slowdown. [Y]

As a workaround, in Logos Desktop, you should be able to find the ESV audio and/or LEB audio resources in your library and request that they be downloaded to your Android device (those resource don't show up in your library view on Android, but they DO exist on your device). If those resources are downloaded, I would expect that you won't see the freezing/slowness with the LEB/ESV.

I just finished fixing this, it should be in the next beta.
