It appears as if they are, but it is not too clear to me. When I hover my mouse over them, I do not see the connection between what I am reading in the Bible and the references elicited by those narrow tabs (if I may call them like that)
Those are called "Visual Bookmarks" and they are an indicator of points in the book that you've looked at already. You can quickly jump back to them by clicking on the grey bars.
