Reading Plan Start-Stop Indicator Errors

Reading plans have bad sync and display issues. The passage that shows on the home page is a passage I have already marked as read.

When I scroll to the current passage in reading view, the start marker is not there when I first get to the passage. If i scroll to the page after the start and then back to the start, the start marker appears. Same with the end marker.

See attached screenshots. (Screenshots were taken with version 4.1.4 but I'm currently running 4.1.7 and still have the same issues)

Your screenshots don't seem to be working for me. Can you try upgrading to the 4.1.8 beta and see if that fixes your issues? If it doesn't, try posting your screenshots again.

Hi Drew,

I tried to post links to the images in a reply to my original message but they are awaiting moderation. In the meantime you can right click on the failed images in my first post and copy the link. That works if you paste it into the url field of another browser.

I just downloaded 4.1.8 and it still has the problem.

That's neat. I never tried to insert javascript in the forums before although I've "tricked" the html a couple times. Though it doesn't look like you did that on purpose? How did you make that post?

I didn't try to do that and have no clue why it happened. I think the forum did it on its own. I usually don't have such major problems when I post in forums but it seems the logos forums don't like me [:)]

The 4.1.4 beta upgraded some core rendering code which inadvertently caused some reading plan markers to not display. This was fixed in the 4.1.5 beta.

The 4.1.7 beta included a bug that would cause the reading plan to automatically get marked as read if you tapped on it in the homepage. This could cause the reading plan markers to not render because the reading was already marked as completed. This was fixed in the 4.1.8 beta.

If the reading starts at the beginning of a chapter it will most likely be rendered offscreen. You can use two finger scrolling to drag down slightly and should see the reading plan start marker. This is a known issue that we hope to address in a future release.

The reading plan markers should always appear for past/current readings. If you are still not seeing the reading plan markers in the 4.1.8 beta please let me know. We are wrapping things up and hope to ship 4.1 to Google Play / Amazon Appstore this week.

I just confirmed that I am running 4.1.8. I am still having this problem.

In the Home screen view of the reading plan it shows John 4:46-5:29.

When I click on it, it does not show a reading marker at John 4:46. When I move forward the appropriate number of pages in the Bible text, the Start marker is at John 5:30.

I could take screenshots, but they wouldn't be significantly different than the ones I posted above.

Please let me know what other data I can get to help squash this bug. I am a software developer too, so I can do some technical things if needed.

Very Interesting. It definitely sounds like you are experiencing the 4.1.7 behavior. I've attempted to duplicate the 4.1.7 reading plan issue in 4.1.8 and couldn't do so for a simple new reading plan. I'll take another look. Thanks for the quick feedback.

The Home screen shows the next unread reading plan session up to today. If you are ahead of today's reading plan session it shows the last completed one.

The reading plan markers visible in books always show the start/next/finished sections for the next reading plan session.

Is it possible that some of your reading plan sessions got incorrectly marked as read due to the 4.1.7 bug? If so, you can go into the reading plan document via the documents tab and uncheck the particular readings as completed.

I think you've figured it out. The plan I used as an example I actually have "read ahead" into August.

I actually try to use some plans just to keep track of where I am, not necessarily to keep me on a certain day. This particular one I had to read all 4 Gospels twice for a class that I am taking. I entered the books into a reading plan twice, and set it to 30 verses "per day". This was not so much to schedule the reading as it was to keep track of what I've read. When I do the reading, I try to do as much reading as I can in one sitting. Checking off the days helps me to do that.

Any ideas on how I could accomplish my particular goal more easily?

My suggestion if you were to modify the app to fit my use case would be to always have the entry on the home screen go to the next unread reading. If they've already read the reading for "today", signify it visually in a different way.

If you open the document for your reading plan (using the "Documents" button in the left side navigation drawer) you can see a list of all the readings on the plan along with which ones are completed.

We just got the approval to change the behavior of the home screen to show the next unread reading instead of the last read reading. This should be in the next beta release.

How you created your reading plan
A specific reading that you noticed the problem on

I'm still having this issue in 4.1.9. I've got some screenshots that show it happening pretty consistently:

If you look at the screenshots in order of the time at the top, it makes sense.

The images show:

Start of reading John 6:60-7:24
John 7:24 with no end marker (and it seems to stop completely as the next image shows something after the end marker too)
John 7:24 after I moved one page past it and then came back. Has "Done" marker.
Start of John 7:25-52 reading
Help screen showing version
John 8:30 without "Done" marker
John 8:30 with "Done" marker after moving one more page and coming back.

Please let me know how else I can help.
