Looking up commentaries

Logos promotes itself as your one source for studying etc. I believe this to be true but I do wonder why when you search passages only a few of the commentaries show up in the commentaries column. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to search those commentaries that I have to go in and manually look in the Library for?

you can bring up the commentary in question and search accross it, you can group commentaries into a collection, and search across all of them, you have a lot of flexibility.

There should be a "more" button at the bottom of the list. However should a resource you like not be showing up in the commentaries part of one of the guides (which I presume you are using?) then you need to raise the priority of the resource you're hoping to see there.

its actually a pretty cool thing - in time, as you get to know logos, and you tell it about your self, the results it comes back with are increasingly useful

I would suggest that you take time to learn about the power of collections. A good place to start is to check this out - http://wiki.logos.com/Collections

If you're looking for the commentaries that comment on a specific passage, I would suggest using the Explorer window (from the Tools menu) or opening a Passage Guide. (from the Guides menu). Both of those tools will show all the commentaries that have sections devoted to a particular passage.

Thank you so much for all of your help. It has help a lot. I guess now I have some nitty gritty questions. If person A has a book on The Passover and I look up this passage of the passover in the NT, is there anyway to get Logos to reference this specific book? Maybe even references in the book where this NT passage is mentioned? Can I just add a tag called Commentary?

Sorry for all of the questions, still trying to wrap my brain around all the info and how to access it in an efficient way. Thanks again

Wiki => http://wiki.logos.com/Example_Collections has more examples plus link to Faithlife group Logos Collections that has 301 collection documents that can be copied.

Create your own custom guides to search on the resources (collections / or tagged resources) you want.

I have guides for:

Technical commentaries

Expository commentaries

Application commentaries

Devotional commentaries

Encyclopaedias or dictionaries

When I am interested in only looking at my various commentaries, I use the Explorer tool. It is one of my favorite tools!
