Purchased Book Downloaded, cant find it in Logos 4 but see it in Logos 3

I have both Logos 3 and Logos 4 installed on my machine running Vista.

I have recently bought two books from the Logos website.  When I click on Unlock and Download, the Logos 3 updater downloads the new book and I can see it in Logos 3, but I can't see it in Logos 4.

I have tried refreshing the resources in Tools|Options\General in Logos 3.  I have tried restarting both Logos 3 and 4, and restarting the machine.

As far as I know the resources are in the same location on my hard drive.  How can I tell in Logos 4 where the resources are located?  Logos 4 does not have a location manager like Logos 3 has.

Please help

    Wes...

Logos 4 updates your resources (or checks to see IF they need updating) once a day and when you restart (that's my understanding anyway.)

    Do this:

In the "command bar" of Logos 4, type in "update resources"

And wait about 10 or 15 minutes. Logos 4 should say "checking for updates" and begin to make sure that what you should have is what you've got....

Do that and check back with me..ok?

Logos 4 keeps its resources in a different location from where Logos 3 resources are. There is no way to tell it to find them in a different location; it always looks here:

    In XP it’s C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Data\random\ResourceManager\Resources.
    In Vista and Windows 7 it’s C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\random\ResourceManager\Resources

(username is your actual user name; and random is a random bunch of characters, but it's the only folder within the Data folder so you should be able to find it)

Logos 4 checks for new resources once a day and will automatically download them to your resources folder when it notices you have some new resources to download. To force it to update now, type update now in the command bar at the top of your Logos window.

Just a clarification on the difference between what Robert suggested you do and what I suggested:  update now will do an incremental update of anything that is new on the server since the last time you updated; update resources does a full comparison of all your resources against what's on the server and your licenses and copies anything you're missing.

Another command to try would be

    scan <path to your L3 resources>

I must confess that I do not know under what circumstances scan would be called for when update resources wouldn't work. But I know it is another available Logos 4 command, so I thought I'd mention it. The instructions about it in the wiki say merely: "Scan {Resource Path} finds unlocked books in a folder or on a disk. You must close Logos and reopen it before this command executes."

    (Thanks for your help!!!!)

I have tried "update resources" before and it didn't work.

    Logos 3 keeps my resources here: C:\Program Files\Libronix DLS\Resources

Logos 4 keeps my resources here: C:\Users\Wes\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\ccdcjd5h.sdg\ResourceManager\Resources

The book I bought was Commentary of the NT use of the OT callled "COMNTUSEOT".

I just tried copying from the L3 folder into the L4 folder.  Then I "update resources" and waited... but that didn't work.  I still can't see it in Logos 4.

You don't by any chance have "Use Internet" set to "No" in Tools | Program Settings, do you? (If you change that setting, you have to close Logos and restart it for it to take effect.)

I don't think you can simply copy the file over from the L3 folder. Try deleting the file from your L4 resources folder and then restarting L4 (twice, for good measure; sometimes I've found it doesn't take on the first close/restart cycle) and then doing update resources. When you do the latter, do you see the blue Logos icon in your tray area in the lower right corner telling you (if you hover your mouse over it) that it's updating?

    Wes,

Wes, you said in your original post that you bought two books. Are you seeing the other book in Logos 4?

    (Thanks everyone! )

In L4 I had "Automatically Download Updates" checked NO.  So I changed that. (Thanks Rosie)

I also deleted the books in L4 (I could see both in L3) that I copied from L3 into L4.

Then I restated my computer and ran "Update Resources".  It said "No updates were found."

One other thing I should maybe mention- I didn't do the the minimal crossgrade when going to L4 - instead what I did was just downloaded the L4 engine itself for free.  Everything is working fine, excpet when I try to download new books...

    FIXED!

"Use Internet" was set to "No."  I changed that and now it is indexing and I can see the books.

    Thanks everyone, and especially Rosie

Do you know if you had intentionally turned this off at some point? It's odd that it would be set to No, since I believe the default is supposed to be Yes. Automatically Download Updates is a different story. I can't remember what that defaults to.

Yes, currently I live in a country with a very slow internet connection, so I think when I first installed L4 I changed that to NO

I'm glad we were able to solve it for you. Just remember to set that back to Yes temporarily whenever you buy new books and you'll be good to go. You might also check the Logos website periodically to see when new versions have been released, since they are continuing to add features back into 4.0 that were sacrificed from 3.0 in order to get it out sooner. See the full list of features coming soon, with approximate timeframes here.
