'My Passage Guide' not available in layout after update to 4.0a

I have several layouts for different passages that I'm working on concurrently. However, after updating to 4.0a, each of the layouts I had already defined loads but without the passage guides, stating "Guide template for this shortcut is unavailalble". Has anyone else come across this problem?
I can put in a new guide for each layout without much difficulty. But this shouldn't happen each time there is an update. Surely the layout should adopt the latest 'My Passage Guide' template, even if there are different features from the old one after an update. BTW, the update to allow customisation of what commentaries to search in is great in 4.0a.

John,
For comparison....no, that didn't happen to me.

Nope, it didn't happen for me either. However it shouldn't be too hard for a Logos developer (hint: Bradley???) to look in the code and let us know under what circumstances that error message should come up. The message mentions "shortcut" -- I'm wondering how what you're doing had to do with shortcuts?
I was able to reproduce that error message under a circumstance where I would totally expect it:
1. Create a new guide template called "Dummy Guide"; close the template editor
2. Guides > Dummy Guide
3. Click the Dummy Guide tab and drag it onto the shortcut bar to create a shortcut for it
4. Close Dummy Guide
5. Guides > right-click on Dummy Guide > Delete
6. Click the shortcut to Dummy Guide. I get a blank guide with the message "Guide template for this shortcut is unavailable" in it.
This is what I would expect, since I'd deleted the guide which that shortcut used to point to.
Incidentally, even if I recreate a new guide called Dummy Guide, the old shortcut still points to the previously deleted one and will still give me that error message. That's not too surprising either to me as a programmer. I'm sure these guides are identified by a unique number internally, so that if I rename one, any shortcut or layout that was referring to it will still work, since they reference the unique number not the name. Thus when I deleted the first Dummy Guide and created a new one with the same name, it was actually a new number, so the shortcuts wouldn't get remapped to point to the new guide.Think back over all you've done with your guides and shortcuts and see if any of what I've said might explain the behavior you saw.

I was surprised when I read the word "shortcut" in the error message. It's nothing to do with me creating shortcuts, but the shortcut seems
to be an internal method that L4 uses to call up a passage guide when
switching to a new layout.Essentially, I had a layout with resources open relating to that Bible passage, as well as a passage guide (the default 'My Passage Guide') which had a list of commentaries for me to choose from. I don't have shortcuts in the top bar to anything other than Bibles and a few other books. The passage guide was not able to be displayed, and this error message was posted in the middle of the relevant pane instead. This has occurred on a number of layouts that I had previously saved some weeks ago.
It's not at all a major issue as I can reinsert another pasage guide again. But it's just another minor annoyance, like the overall window position moving a little to the left at times (esp after switching layouts), etc.

When you click in the Guides menu, did you lose your My Passage Guide template in the upgrade?

I had the same problem. I simply went to the Guides menu and selected My Passage Guide directly. From that point on, it worked fine.

To be honest, I'm not sure. I immediately took advantage of being able to select a collection of "Best Commentaries" for the commentary search, and saved this over the existing "My Passage Guide". I didn't try with the old version of "My Passage Guide" on its own after the upgrade.

John, try updating to 4.0a SR-1 which was just released. It fixes several bugs including one which might have been responsible for the loss of your passage guides, if indeed as you surmise they are implemented internally as shortcuts from a layout:
"Fixed crash (System.IO.IOException) dragging a new item to the Shortcuts bar; should also fix bug causing existing shortcuts to be lost"
See here for further release notes and info on how to update if you haven't done so yet automatically.

Thanks Rosie, but it hasn't helped. And the shifting of the overall window to the left has got worse as it now moves by 4mm on my screen at times, including when changing layouts. I don't maximise as this causes more delay to and from viewing a resource using F11. But I can live with the passage guide problem. The update to SR1 hasn't caused the problems that updating to 4.0a caused, so maybe the problem is solved and history now.

Whatever updates have occurred recently (there have been loads of downloads in the last few days), "My Passage Guide" is now not available any longer. This is despite deleting them after the last time this occurred after an update, and creating new ones. I have only one MPG working now, which is on the most recent layout that I created a day or two ago. Other layouts report "Guide template for this layout is unavailable".
This is getting annoying.
Does anyone else have this same problem?

John which version are you working with? (No, I do not know if it matters)
When I check under ? / About Logos Bible Software etc I am on the 4.0b Beta 3 (4.02.3.5178)
I am not seeing your problem.

Steve, I'm running 4.0a SR-3 (4.01.3.5180)
I've also noticed that when I do a MPG with all commentaries, and I get a long list returned, I now cannot remove selected ones by clicking on the X at the right of the commentary listing. I used this previously to customise a long list to a shorter one, but now there is no response when I click remove.

ADAIK that was a fairly stable Release-Gold etc.
But unfortunately, as this is a weekend, there are probably no 'techs" avaiable.
This may need the help of a "higher power." [:(]
Sorry, John, not to be able to give any further suggestions.
