Well, I'd never noticed that John never describes Jesus "praying". (John 17:9 uses ἐρωτάω = ask, rather than προσεύχομαι = pray.)

A further refinement would be:
subject:Jesus AND (verb:to pray OR verb:to ask)
This will eliminate the 'to ask' results which do not refer to Jesus praying.
That said, without already knowing that John doesn't use the word 'pray' with Jesus, we wouldn't know to search for it. In this case the Louw-Nida domain 33.178 which covers the idea of praying is of no use either. At least the absence of any results from John should alert us to look further.

Mark, thank you for the further refinement. Using "subject:Jesus" cuts the results by more than half. However, the results still include incidents where Jesus is "asking" but not "praying", ie, Mark 16:13 where Jesus asks "who do people say that the Son of Man is?"

The resource tagging needs to be changed to allow for the usage "to pray" in John. But it is more strictly "to make request". Logos are not adventurous with the tagging!

There is a fine dividing line, but there is a crossover between the Hebrew/Aramaic and Greek usage that should be reflected.
I hovered over several of the OT references that sure looked like petitions to me, while, on the other hand, several of the NT ones didn't.
