Directing Notes to the Appropriate Note File

I tried searching for this but perhaps I'm not phrasing it properly. Let me try here ...

Now that I have my notes separated into individual note files by resource, how do I make sure that future notes/highlights/markups get directed into that resource's note file?

It depends upon where you are taking your notes. The rules are different on tablets. I will search for the thread where this was discussed for desktops.

Notice that in that thread Triskal asks somewhat the same question. I provided part of the reply from information that others had already posted on the use of per palate directives. "The key seems to be to set the option to direct highlights to "Save in: Most recent note file"."

However, that, by itself just raised some more questions about what is the "Most recent note file". Others in that thread answer that later.

I noticed a few days ago that I still had notes directed to the wrong files even though I thought I was being careful. They can always be moved later.

You can find out which notes files hold notes and highlights for the current resource by using the colorful tri-circle thingy on the resource toolbar called "Visual Filters". That pull down menu will show you which resources currently have notes. You can also use that menu to hide the notes from particular notes files while reading that resource.
