This is a short rant about this product -
Basics of Biblical Greek Vocabulary
I am an extremely satisfied Logos user and purchaser. I am not a one-platform person by any means (I have a lot of Kindle resources, and I am also thankful for the increasing amount of free Biblical training resources online) but given a choice to buy something, I gravitate toward Logos and I am willing to pay the premium over another platform for benefits like linking, context-sensitive Greek/Hebrew searches and so on.
First off, I was pleasantly surprised at the relatively low price (for Logos) for this resource. Now, all of the pronunciations in this product can be obtained for free off of Mounce's training site but since I had already got the grammar and workbook in the March madness sale, I did not mind completing the trifecta.
The pros of this product are:
1) Once you download all media to your computer, it works fine within its intended model.
2) If you keep the grammar and the vocabulary resource open in side-by-side tabs, and collapse the contents list on the vocabulary, you can access the pronunciation of the word you are currently learning.
Now for the bad points:
1) If you dont download all media, Logos 5 on Windows locks up everytime you try to access a word in the vocabulary. If you lock up twice, Logos 5 crashes every single time.
2) The audio player is more like a video player retrofitted for audio files.
3) Again, if you have not downloaded all media, expect to see URL errors and timeouts within the media player. Clicking on the error takes you to the standard Logos oopsie page.
Missed opportunities:
1) Why is the audio not linked directly from the grammar's vocabulary. Should not be too hard or is it?
2) Why are there no vocabulary word lists for each chapter prefilled with the audio, lemma and so on especially in light of the recent release of the excellent Logos Flashcards app (I am aware of the Faithlife group that is currently creating it by hand but those pronunciations are from the Logos database, not Mounce)
This is an example of a product where Logos could justifiably charge a premium if the above features were added. But as it stands, this product is disappointing. I am not sure if this has something to do specifically with Zondervan but I hope for an update or two to these resources.
