"Resources are Ready to be added to your library" - which ones?

OK, just trying to learn more about how all this resource stuff works. I will track version numbers of files too for better info, per Dave H."s request.

I check the ftp site periodically to sync it with my ver 3 installation - locked and unlocked resources. A bunch of resources came down last night for ver. 3 Logos. No way so far to see whcih ones should go into ver. 4, as many are probably locked resources, and some may be older/non-logos4 files (for example I looked at one file and it was an Andersen Forbes file, I checked and the version appears older than my Logos 4 plus it is lbxlls format and logos 4 has a logos4 version so that one should not come across.

So I did a Resource Update from Logos 4 - no updates came across.

Then I did a scan of a ffolder of the new files that came down to ver. 3. I have not run logos 4 yet, but the icon in the system tray says "Resources are ready to be added to your library". I want to find out which ones, how do I do it? That way I can see exactly what was updated and if it makes sense.

That "Resources are ready to be added to your library" is the popup that's answering your Resource Update command in L4. Go ahead & click on it.

You're next (not last) in a long line of folks to ask for this, but Logos isn't headed that direction. In the happy path (way things are supposed to work):

they check your licenses for L3 (that's why the installation process recommends you sync licenses before installing L4).
Then they auto-download the L4 equivalents into a hidden resource folder.
As new L4 versions are released, they will automatically download them to you. They only send you those resources--not ones you DON'T have a license for.

A design goal of L4 was to move "maintenance" into the background & Bible study into the foreground. They WON'T tell us what's in the releases or give us the ability to manage it. If they did (I'm paraphrasing Bob Pritchett's response to us), it'd fail on that design goal in 2 ways.

We'd be focusing on maintenance.
Their ability to diagnose what's wrong in our installations would be severely curtailed, based on their experience with L3. That'd increase THEIR focus on maintenance, when we want them out developing new fun toys.

I'm not telling you we all like it. It's a shift in the way we work. And that isn't easy.

I think as I am sure many here do, that approach isn't quite working because I am watching my resources. I compare two installations to see what has changed that way (I happen to be away from my house at the time so I can't check my laptop). We have all seen some anomalies in how this works, so we want to watch it.

The most important issue here is that IMHO we will often be concerned about "maintenance" because the bulk of our investment in Logos is in the resources. I have a lot of $$$ tied up in Logos resources, you bet I am going to want to watch and make sure that investment is not being compromised by a bug, error on my part, whatever.

I feel it would be naive to assume that they are being managed properly, whether on my computer or in the cloud. I convinced myself that the resource I had in ver. 3 are in ver. 4, and I watch how updates and purchases occur as well. I understand wanting to make it transparent to people who don't want to look at that stuff (like new users especially), but those who want tools to track their investment, especially when we had those tools in ver. 3, are going to want them no matter what Logos' vision!

I'm not Logos, but I'm a long-time user, was in the last several betas, & have followed with interest all the threads on use of Logos. I'm just attempting to summarize what we've been told so far.

Personally, I tend toward your line of reasoning... Whoever 1st said "Trust but verify" (Wikipedia credits Ronald Reagan for making it "popular" but acknowledges he didn't come up with it), that's my philosophy too, towards anything digital. (More often, I'll say it a different way, "I don't trust computers any further than I can throw them.")

Like you, even IF they DON'T give us the ability to CHANGE downloads, I'd at least like detailed VISIBILITY of what's IN them--be it resources or software. IMO, that could help us all help them debug when we fall off the happy path... I'm just sayin'...
