help for the mac challenged

Please help a brotha out . . . I am Mac challenged, but have installed Logos 5 to use on my inlaws desktop for when I am at their house. They don't touch it. I have a few issues:

1. I have a sync problem, with the yellow triangle. I can't get it to go away.

2. I can't tell what version it is. Where do we?

3. I don't know if I need it, but their mouse doesn't have a right clicker.

4. It downloaded some stuff this morning, when I opened it, but apparently nothing I have purchased on Logos in the last few months, including LMM books.

I'm guessing this is related to the sync issues.

How old is this Mac? Hold down the Control key as you click. That is the old equivalent of a right click.

Under the little Apple, select About this Mac. What OS version is on this machine? Logos 5 requires at least 10.5 (or is it 10.6?)

5.0b SR3 is old, came out a year ago.

Suggest you upgrade to 5.2a SR1 (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/83320.aspx) and see how you get on.

no need to redownload resources, just the Logos software (I think on Mac thats 70-80MB but not sure)

The mouse you are describing is a Magic Mouse. You can right click and scroll on it. Stroke your finger down the middle to work like a scroll wheel. Right click where you would normally at the right of the mouse. There is a little tutorial on the use of the mouse. It is under System Preferences (the cog wheel in the Dock usually at the bottom of the screen). Click on System Preferences icon in Dock, then click on mouse icon to see what is selected and a little action video on how to do each action as you select them individually.

Once you get the hang of the magic mouse you can do all sorts of things with it. Single-finger and two-finger swipes, etc. When you get used to it you won't want to go back to a Windows mouse!

just looked at it, thanks! I had tried the right side click, but it hadn't worked. when I opened system prefs, I saw that that feature appeared to be unchecked. I "checked" it, and now it works. peace out.

It does but if you have a lot of resources and the computer has little memory you might as well go to bed. (Making sure that the computer does not shut down in the meantime).

i don't know how much it started out with, but it looks like it has 4 GB of memory . . . might that be the problem with syncing???? I guess I thought that was RAM, but I see RAM is 512MB. For goodness' sake, who SOLD them this computer?? i5 processor.

My energy saver does not have the "prevent computer from sleeping automatically ..." button.

unfortunately, folks, the sync issue is still alive and well. the little yellow triangle still exists, signifying a syncing error. What am I missing? I can't figure out what would cause the issue. I am logged in as me, I have access to my library, it shows layouts I made at home just last week, and shows new clippings and notes I recently made at home . . . soooo, I am not sure what the syncing error is, nor why it is a problem. Oh, and all the indexing appears to be done, too.

thanks for the W00T and attention, Justin! I am kind of laughing, knowing that I am leaving the iMac and in-laws in about an hour or so, and may not return to solve this problem until I am forced to start the whole process over again (updates, etc). That's life. the sync issue mystifies me, but I can still access my stuff, which is what I want most of all.

There can be many reasons for it. Hopefully the logs will tell us something. Even though you are leaving, it might be good for someone to take a look at those logs... It could be something like a firewall or a corrupt file. Just make sure to book mark this page so that when you return next you will have a place to start. [:D]
