Logos Performance

Hi Guys,

So I'm wondering if there are any ways to spruce up the performance of Logos on my laptop. It's always been a fairly sluggish program, and I'm looking for perhaps some ways within the program to maybe help it run leaner. As far as tech specs go, I'm running:

2009 MacBook Pro 15"

Intel i7 2.66 GHz

OSX 10.9 Mavericks

8GB RAM

512MB GeForce GT 330M

I know the graphics card is a little sparse for Logos 5, but since I'm exceeding even the recommended settings for Logos 4, I guessing it well could be something in the settings.

You should be fine running Logos 5, your Macbook 2009 may have only the minimum amount or Vram but this should not cause significant performance issues and in general Logos 5 is much more stable than 4 ever was. I would advise you to back up your Logos4 folder from HD/users/Library/YOURUSERNAME/Application Support/ I suggest this in case you have to go back to 4, you will not have to start from scratch. Since downgrading after an update/upgrade is not possible. But i honestly do not think you will have any issues. https://www.logos.com/install is where you can download the engine for free. If that works you may consider a cross grade to gain the new datasets but this is not a requirement.

PS: The hard drive is the major bottle neck.... if you ever update to an SSD you will find things work better for Logos. I did have your same machine before it died (applecare repair screw up, I got a replacement which is a 2012 non retina which I upgrade to SSD...

I see. Yeah, I'm still running 4, Dan. My hard drive is a little faster, but no solid state yet Just the 7200 SATA.

I'm running Logos 4 still.

I don't run Logos on Mac so can't comment from my own experience but from comments made by other forum members there seems to have been a significant performance improvement for many users moving to Logos 5. So it may be worth thinking about whether that is a viable option.

Hopefully a Mac expert can comment but looking at your specs versus the Logos 5 minimum / recommended requirements I think it could be worth trying

Concur with recommendation for Logos 5, which has new features that need new resources for their use; wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Upgrade_or_Crossgrade

Existing Logos 4 features work in Logos 5.

Logos is a resource intensive application; SATA III Solid State Disk (SSD) noticeably improves Logos responsiveness (and reduces indexing time).
