Annoyance:? Highlighting slower when network connectivity lost

I do not know if this has been reported before or is a known issue but on both my HTC One and Nexus 7 (running stock Android 4.4), Logos has an annoying behaviour with highlighting.

If the device is connected to Wifi or to LTE, the highlighting works great; it is fast (especially the new swipe-to-select) and does not interrupt your reading flow.

The moment you lose connectivity or put the device in airplane mode (I commute to work via train every day), every highlight introduces a delay of between 3-5 seconds at least. 

Of course, this is majorly annoying and almost makes me not want to do highlights.

Any fixes or ideas?

    I use the Android app with a Dell Venue and have also noted of late that highlighting is slow.
