Searching question

How do I search for the Apostle John and Qumran references?
- I get over 3000 hits if I search for; John NEAR Qumran. Not all are the Apostle
- I get over 80,000 hits if I search for "John" AND Qumran. Same as the above.
- I get close to 2000 hits if I search for "Apostle John" AND Qumran. ETC.

I'd think you'd need to narrow down by 'theory'. For example the Qumran>Samaritan>John sequence. I'm not sure what angle you're taking.

What I want to do is to see how John's theology may have borrowed or at least resembled the sect in any way. Light vs. darkness; spirit of truth vs. spirit of perversion; water and the s(S)pirit and the like.

Oh, ok. That' a little easier. I don't know your library. I have a DSS/Qumran tag, and then I'd search for 'spirit of' 'sons of' without regard to John. Then I'd shift over to my John series and do the same. I know that's harder, absent a specific resource.
The likelihood you're going to get much in the middle is two-fold; Qumran was a limited gospel-John-player (primarily the two big-boy scrolls) and most analyses typically try to tag John the Baptist. You'll actually get more help looking at Didache/Barnabas which typically go into considerable depth (two-ways)

(refs today are difficult to make active; on this thread and another I found re-editing and putting a carriage return after the ref makes it active)

Hopefully you'll get a forumite more specific query today.
I'll add an example and then shut up.
I'm making my way throught the Charlesworth (editor) book on Jesus and the Temple.

I thought it'd be kind of either whacky or yawn-y. But it's turning out to be quite factoid-heavy and interesting relationships. One of them is the Gospel of John who the author compares to Qumran, but then goes through the sequence of how John differed, etc
My point is that the distance of the search terms John and Qumran are sizable ... it'd be hard to bring the two together in a query.
(And of course, that led me back yet again to 'the Quest' in Carta & Co. Logos really needs Carta.)
