BUG: Cited By is so FULL that I Can't Edit it

Because "Cited By" automatically populates with every new Collection

AND

Because I have a lot of Collections

"Cited By" has now "locked up"

I can no longer access its' small "edit" window. When I try to click on the icon I get a "non-responding" and a screen flash.

Do I have to "clean out" some of my collections in order to be able to get in to Cited By to "de-select" others?

I removed over 20 Collections - still did not help.

then re-booted.

I now was able to access the small edit window to "unclick" more of the automatic choices -- ie. all of the "new" denominational collections from Faithlife had to be de-selected.

Question: The fact that Cited By includes ALL of the "mytags" ... now that we can click on them and get a Library Display ... are they needed anymore in Cited By?

[Even after all of that, I am still having to re-boot in order to get at that menu window to edit Cited By. - i guess I have to delete even more?]

How many collections do you have?? I have 250 mytags (how I manage the library) and no issues. Plus of course a whole bunch of resources I don't know where they came from (in the list). Plus my collections.

I agree the automatic additions into CitedBy's is nutty. I have several CitedBys in my layout and I have to dutifullly fix them now and then.

That is somewhat assuring.

As I only use "mytags" in Library searches/organization, I do try to keep on top of "un-checking" them in Cited By.

I've never added up the number of Collections nor have I numbered the "mytags" -- it could take awhile!

I agree the automatic additions into CitedBy's is nutty.

Also nutty is showing 6 lines for drag and drop:

Scrolling 1,140 Collections, mytags, and series has periodic stop and go.

For technically inclined, Cited By panel preferences are in a database column (one long string has Show Collection items).

You are making me feel a little better.

I am in the midst of purging some of mine [which I do NOT want to do].

Has Logos ever indicated the "sweet spot" for Collections. My-Tags, etc?

For a "serious Research tool" is that an [inappropriate or outrageous] request?

I have not seen this question addressed--are testers actually using/bulking up these tools to even know how robust they are [or are not?]

If not, are they are giving it a fair evaluation?

eg. (semi-related) Someone recently suggested a Note file for each book of the Bible--Are we just "asking for trouble" by doing such...?

Please...not trying to start flame war...these are serious questions. Preparing lessons, sermons etc is time consuming enough. I do not want to waste time by "clogging up" software so that it is unresponsive.

When dragging to rearrange Cited By order was toilsome, found careful editing of preference string was easier (rearrange order and change IsEnabled from True to False for many items). Followed database column update with using Logos to drag and rearrange an item in Cited By so updated preferences would sync.

Personally have 345 collections and 50 user tags along with 745 series. In Program Settings, have set "Show Community Ratings" and "Show Community Tags" to No.

I had not even considered that "series" would also be an issue.

Your & Denise's numbers are quite close.

Obviously I must still "pare" some of mine down.

Cited by… is a prime example of a good idea poorly implemented. Because of all the difficulties mentioned in this thread, I seldom use this tool. Instead, I have created custom Passage Guides and included desired collection there.

Since we're largely chatting, a passage lookup tool has its uses (Guide or Explorer). I use the latter in addition to several CitedBy panels, primarily so I can mouse over the commentaries. The Passage Guide is considerably more powerful but needs a 'passage'.

Unique to CitedBy, is you can run it against just about anything, not just passages. Many people don't know you can hook a CitedBy to many lexicons, and it'll do the lookups for you in your other lexicons, grammars, commentaries etc, often show the example greek/hebrew. Really powerful.

However, I had not imagined the large number of collections, tags, series that are being delivered to the CitedBy menu (which is all mixed up!). Mine is comparatively small.

SteveF, I finally got "Cited By" pared down to size so to speak...what I did was change the reference to a single verse, i.e., Psalm 1:1. That made everything more manageable instead of the entire Psalm. When I had the reference down to the single verse, I could then go in and close all of the collections by clicking on their title. As each collection title closed, the speed increased and I was able to close each collection a little more quickly.

I tried another reference and tried 2 verses...and this time (with all of the collections closed) Cited By worked great. So, my recommendation would be to limit references to 1 or maybe 2 verses at a time instead of a complete chapter. Try this as a workaround until Logos developers can come up with a way to close all of the collections at once... Hope this helps.

Even after "un-checking" every Collection - Cited By still continues to "stutter" by appearing to flash by quickly rather than opening the edit window and also producing a "non-responding." I must continually re-load the layout.

Is it possible there there may be some sort of "memory leak" happening?
