Pre-pubs

I was just noticing, that one of my prepubs has been waiting since Sept 23 / 2011. This one is called "Word Biblical Commentary - Micah to Malachi (revised).

Maybe it's just me, but does this not seem to be a bit off the wall timewise? I remember this type of thing taking place with Biblesoft, promotions / promises being made and years afterwards, nothing happening till that particular program went right down the tubes (or is that the drain)!!!

Is this something that is supposed to be normal and if so, really, two years to get book like that into digital form? :-)

Thanks for the replies. Why is it that these books are advertised and not put into Logos before this. Rosie, I see yours are going back four years ago. This tells me Logos is not that serious about bringing these books aboard, or they shouldn't be advertised as such.

Graham, this is why I posted this thread - the commentary mentioned isn't published. So it seems to boil down that when we sign up for one of these pre pubs, we might not actually ever receive it. Weird and wonderful!!! O-)

It is not that Logos is not serious about these.. Ones like NIB have only recently come under contract. There are 3 WBC volumes that have been there a long time. Acts is not yet even published and the others Nelson has not yet provided the eText for them.

PS: I really, really wish they would just grab a copy of the final volume of WBC Job and scan it in....

There could be various reasons. A publisher might say they have a book coming soon but then the author doesn't finish it (perhaps dies) and it gets reassigned to another author. Or contract negotiations leave an expiration date and they don't make the deadline so the contract needs to be renegotiated. We have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. I don't think we can assume it's because Logos "is not that serious about bringing these books aboard." They say they have plans to publish 10,000 books a year, and I would think they are serious about all of them, because all of them mean income opportunities. Particularly such things as new commentary volumes from known and trusted series. But with all those works coming down the pipeline, it's not surprising if 3 or 4 of them don't make it out the door as planned, due to whatever hiccups we can only guess at.

The Hebrew Audio Pronunciations one has a long and painful history which you can find out about if you google it in the forums. Bob keeps explaining to us what happened to derail that project yet again and promises that this time it really will be coming soon, but then something else happens. It turned out to be way harder a project than they ever anticipated and they've run into many unanticipated problems. I will really rejoice when/if that finally sees the light of day.

Personally I look forward and cringe towards the end of the month when the next months release dates are posted. (I am excited those being released, but if it's too many then I cringe).

Unless it's a book I just cannot wait for, then I am not bothered about the delay in them being released because its easier on the wallet.

Graham, this is why I posted this thread - the commentary mentioned isn't published.

It has not yet been published in hardcopy by Word. I guess Logos could cancel everyone's Pre-Pub orders until the publishers get their acts together.

Note that the pre-order date is the date you ordered it. Sometimes it takes many many months to get out of community pricing and into pre-pub. That is not visible on the screen. Note Rosie's New Interpreter's Bible.
