Hi there,
I have my new logo 5 on my desktop, I'm going to buy a laptop to have my logos 5 there, any suggestions in particular, Apple or PC, fast processor, then which one? Suggestions? Thanks. (Budget $500-1,500)
Andres
I don't think you will ever be sorry if you get a macbook Air. I would advise you to get the upgrade to i7 (the i5 would be fine but the i7 will give you just that little bit more of a boost) and 8 GB ram... you should find it works very fast for you.

Suggestions?
It depends upon if you want the best laptop (Mac), or the best Logos experience (high end Windows). Of course, you can also run windows on your mac... including through virtualization.
You should not buy anything this weekend. Apple is announcing new toys next week.
Thank you Dan.

There are many, many great options in this very wide price range. Not a hard and fast rule in any respect, but you may want to consider maintaining continuity with your existing desktop operating system - whatever that is.
Thank you!
Oh yes Steve, I will continue with my deskstop os, I need one to go to school, thanks!
There may be some value in matching your tablet OS with your desktop OS to utilize the ever-expanding cloud based technologies. The different offereing are not necessary mutually exclusive to each other but there can be advantages by keeping them the same. e.g. iCloud on both, or OneDrive on both, etc. Do you use a smartphone? That may factor into the continuity equation.
Thank you Jim, I'll check it out! GBY
Yes Steve I use smartphone, thank you for the info, very helpful. God bless.
I am quite happy with my Yoga 2 Pro with the i7. Tablet mode is nice when using Logos...I just wish it had an active digitizer. If I were doing it over, I'd probably spring for a Thinkpad Yoga with the active Wacom digitizer...also works great in tablet mode.
Thanks Erik
With Logos this does not offer any real advantage other than only having to memorize one set of keyboard shortcuts. For example: Logos will sync with a Windows Desktop, a Mac laptop and an Android phone just fine.
If I were purchasing a laptop today I would purchase a 13" Retina MacBook Pro.
Just today my latest issue of MacWorld came in and there is a article on pages 10-11 by a man who had a mid-2010 MacBook Pro and a mid-2012 MacBook Air. He decided to replace both with a new 13' MacBook Pro. Here is how he wraps it up:
"I've had my 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro for a couple of months, and it's an ideal replacement for my two old laptops. Even though it's slightly bigger and heavier than my old Air, I've gained a much faster Mac with ne only a physically larger display but also more pixels (even in Retina mode.)"

Logos 5 is a resource intensive 32 bit application that benefits from faster processors (CPU and Graphics) plus faster disk drive(s) with adequate memory. Solid State Disk (SSD) is noticeably faster.

Personally have Windows 7 on 17" laptop and OS X 10.8 on 27" iMac. Thankful for Logos 5 substantial parity; easy to switch platforms as desired. Wiki => http://wiki.logos.com/Mac_and_PC_User_Interface_Differences#Feature_Parity has feature parity items gathered from forum discussions.

I think this is a fair, balanced suggestion!
As one user contributed - it is often a tad simpler to keep up with just one OS when syncing and sharing over the cloud. I have been pleased with my Microsoft Surface PRO for using L5. I was an early adopter and got the first generation and have had no problems. The Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3 have increased battery life, capacity and processor speed. As always, the availability of newer versions drives down the price of older (and by older I mean 1 year) models. Since you already use a smart phone and desktop, I think the Surface Pro could round out your toolbox as a tablet AND laptop replacement.
One more thing - since you specifically mentioned using this for school. The PEN on the Surface pro works GREAT in One Note for taking notes - either drawing diagrams or writing over Professor-provided PDFs.

There's no point spending the extra on a Mac if you're buying specifically for Logos. You won't benefit from any advantages a Mac may offer, so it's not worth the premium.
On the hardware side, I'd recommend 8GB RAM, i5 or i7 processor and an SSD (at least 128GB, preferably 256GB). I would recommend at least a 1600x900 resolution, preferably 1920x1080 (unless you want a very small screen, which I wouldn't recommend).
Similar hardware as gaming => http://www.newegg.com/All-Gaming-Notebooks/SubCategory/ID-3365?Tid=25325&Order=PRICE
In low light situations, backlit keyboard is nice.
As eyes get older, personally found 17" screen with 1920x1080 resolution being easier to read than 15.6"
When upgrading hardware, humanly hard to notice speed increases less than 10 %
Windows 8 has user interface hidden tool bars, which were designed for touch screen.
Thank you Keith!
Thanks David
