Why do downloaded resources seem to access the internet?

Of course the answer should be no. But it appears that Logos is doing something a bit different.

Right now if I download a resource (e.g. the NASB95), and then disconnect the internet I can browse and read as I wish.  BUT if I have a downloaded resource and the internet is still connected I get delays.

Judging from the lagging and delays, it is almost as if Logos for Android is "thinking":

  1. He wants to read Philemon!
  2. Do I have a download? YES!
  3. Let's see if there's something on the internet I need to read Philemon.... (hold on while I draw a circle on the screen several times)...
  4. ...
  5. Nope.
  6. Guess I'll load Philemon from the downloaded version.

Is there any reason we can't jump from step two to step six?

Data

  • App Info – Bible 4.2.9 Build 246 - but the behavior has been consistent across versions.
  • Device Info –  Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket (SGH-I727)
  • Android Version – (4.1.2)

    Maybe he's checking to see if Paul made any recent changes to his letter?

    Or maybe he's checking to see if you left your coffee brewing on Logos5 and want a cup?

    Designing snappy/speedy as a specific goal, just is not in Bellingham's blood. I really think they type out a series of steps, give it to a coder, works?, done.

    I believe this is correct. Notes, Community Notes, Highlights, Popular highlights. It also has to load your notes & highlights locally and render them inline. There was a case of really long delays a while back related to searching for audio, but this only affected ESV & LEB. Try turning some of these options off in settings to see if that speeds it up, if you haven't already.

    Thanks for that suggestion Randy. No speed boost. But it was worth a try.

    Performance improvements are very important to us, specifically at this time. When you experience a significant delay please use the "Send support info" option and send us your logs. Please explain the slowness you were experiencing as well and include [Performance] in the subject line. This feedback will also help provide "real world" user scenarios where performance bottlenecks are occurring. Logos user accounts very drastically in the number of resources, amount of synced content, notes, highlights, favorites, etc, among other details. Receiving feedback about specific instances of slowness will help us to prioritize our efforts for the biggest possible gains for the largest set of users.

    Do we access the interest when you are using downloaded resources but are still online? Absolutely. We need to update your last read book location as well maintain up to date sync data, among other things. This is very intentionally done in such a way to minimize and/or avoid disruption to your book reading experience.

    I have noticed this as well, and will follow the advice above.
