This morning I used the "Update resources" command to make sure I had all my resources, particularly since Biblical People kept crashing the system. Now 10 hours later it is still downloading resources (I already had 1340+ installed). I am wondering if this is normal or if there is an issue.

I took a look at your logs. I appears that your indexer didn't correctly every start downloading, even though it should have. I'll file a bug and take a look at this next week. As I mentioned in the other thread, can you try quiting the indexer and restarting L4 and seeing if the downloads resume?
