Reading the Old Testament includes the book "Reading the Old Testament, an Introduction" by Lawrence Boadt. This is another excellent OT book that I enjoyed reading thoroughly in hard copy! It's strength is the background, culture, history etc. of the settings of the OT which give great understanding of the context for the actions of the characters of the OT. I highly recommend this book as one of the best backgrounders I have read.

Agreed Steve - Pheme Perkins is another winner, these were the two books I used in the Intro to Old and New Testament course I took!
