Layouts and Sub-Layouts. . .
Greetings,
Is there a way to create a sub-layout within a layout and link them together?
In other words:
I have a layout called: "Ephesians 1". I have a complete study on this chapter. I made a concentrated study on the word 'knowledge' within the chapter. I want to create another layout but still be within the first layout.
So I have two layouts. The main layout is 'Ephesians 1' and the linked sub-layout is called 'knowledge'.
The reason: I can have two layouts without having to open two separate layouts. I would also like to have a small icon next to the word 'knowledge' so that I can access the layout from within any bible without having to scroll down and look for hundreds of layouts!
If this can be done, I can have several layouts within one major layout and so save some time. Make sense?
If not, is there a another way to have two layouts open at the same time?

If you have a Greek layout and a Hebrew layout you are limited to changing one or the other to a Greek + Hebrew layout and saving it with a new name. There is no concept of layout "contains" other unique layouts. You can experiment with part of your layout in a floating window.

At this point save the layout with a new name in the Layout menu (you might have to close some tabs first).

Al ... as Dave mentions, no can do. It's been requested for maybe 5 years or so, since it's pretty obvious in Bible study (a base layout and add-ons).
The closest anyone got was from Steve: http://wiki.logos.com/Floating_Tool_Windows
This won't solve your problem but:
- It opens a pre-selected series of resources in a floating window similar to an addon layout (that easily be closed later)
- Since it resides in Favorites, it's easy to manage. You can have bunches of them.
- Big negative and unavoidable: it doesn't link your resources when it opens. Thus it's good for lexicons and such; commentaries no. But I never link my commentaries anyway, since they're forever yanking my Bible around.
- And even if it doesn't solve your problem, it's still a pretty neat thing to be able to do.

Hi Denise,
I've tried to do as you and Dave have mentioned, but sometime the dragging and dropping does not work in my L5. Sometimes it does and sometimes it does not. This time around it did not work. So, I'm stuck with one layout and several floating windows which are unlinked. It can get crowded. And I have two monitors! It would be nice to just click one time and, behold all is open.
I'll see what else I can do. . .

Well, actually I do what Dave mentioned. I have 5 Logos windows that stay open for months at a time (portable PC). Two of them specialize in the OT and NT, the main one in searches, library, tools, etc, and then two more that group current reading/research. I really don't think any other Bible software can match Logos with so much on-board.
Altogether it works out to abouv 120 resources and my PC's not abnormally swift. But scrolling is responsive, etc. The key is not to go crazy with links that aren't really needed, etc. And memory-wise, it works out to about 600m which is a bit more than my browser. I've used it this way for maybe 3-4 years and narry a problem.
