Does logos take 'national book tokens'?
I have been given some...
Cheers,
John
I doubt it. I had never heard of them. Had to google it. Looks like it's a UK national program (er, programme), not US. Logos is a US company, even though they sell internationally, so they wouldn't likely be able to participate in a UK token program.
Interesting. Thanks for the question, John. Thanks, Rosie for the link. I'm curious, what is the idea behind the Nation Book Token?
Steve, you can read more about it on their official website (http://www.nationalbooktokens.com). It looks like it's a marketing tool, a way for people to give gift certificates that can be redeemed at any bookshop in the UK. Kind of like the branded gift cards we have available in the US (and Canada) -- e.g., Starbucks and Home Depot and the like (and even Amazon), though redeemable at multiple bookstores that are all cooperating together.
Book tokens go back a long way. I used to get them every Christmas and birthday when I was a boy. You got a greetings card with tokens for various amounts stuck inside. It was an easy present to post, and more likely to be spent on something sensible than sending cash.
They have been somewhat superseded by Amazon vouchers and other online offerings.
Book tokens. A blast from the past!!!
It's a great idea to encourage reading. Though, one wonders how effective or relevant it is in today's technological landscape.

Wow! I have to admit I"m lost. What do you mean "a long way back"? Fascinating!

As I said in my second post, they started in 1932. They will be familiar any adult in the United Kingdom—and probably a mystery to anyone else. Excuse us getting misty eyed.

"A long way back" in this context would mean that the book token program isn't new... it's old... it goes "a long way back."
Looks like they are actually fairly hard to spend on anything other than novels these days... I need to find an independent book seller and then specially order something!
