Josh bought one of the original Surface Pros. They were famous for overheating and terrible battery life. So hot in fact, they actually melted some components. >>>>To appear to be commenting on Logos, The tablet runs too hot to use for extended searching.

While it might have been helpful for Josh to explain in more details how Logos runs on the Acer Aspire, his post is relevant to this forum since many of us plan or already use Windows tablets for run Logos.

Logos is software but it runs on hardware.

I also believe that even if what Josh wrote was totally out of place, there is a way to communicate it that avoids being rude (rudeness usually leads to the opposite of the desired effect).

Great to know, maybe you could help me by showing me how to perform complex morphological searches or alternatively simply run the exegetical guide offline. Your iPad 2 with 64GB must be something else since my iPad 3 with 32 GB cannot do that while my Surface Pro 2 does it effortlessly online or offline.

I lean towards Super Tramp's view that we've had too much hardware discussion unrelated to Logos in the forums recently. But I have a somewhat different motivation - I'm tired of reading complaints, rants, unfounded fears, financial concerns . . . clutter in the forums on topics not even remotely related to Logos. If I want to read these topics I know what media outlets and websites will give me a heavy dose. It's enough to make a girl want to paraphrase Sgt. Joe Friday, "Just the facts, sir, the relevant facts"

These types of tablets with laptop bases have all of their "guts" in the tablet; that's why they tip over. It's one of the trade-offs to using this form factor.

I wouldn't expect the trackpad on a computer in this price range to be good. If you want a good trackpad that works as it should, buy a Macbook Air or Pro.

I also take demo units with a grain of salt. Demo units get abused because so many people handle them.

I care too. The new touch screen tablets running Windows 8 have filled a niche many of us have been impatiently awaiting. ... A truly portable device with desktop features (Upon which to run Logos). I guess that ain't for everyone. As this technology continues to expand, I expect there will be further discussion about it. Possibly a forum for this platform is the answer. After all there is a forum for Ipad/Iphone, and one for Android. Michael, I think you could contribute much to such a forum. Just thinking out loud. [:D]

I care too, because I want to run Logos 5 on my desktop and tablet. The iOS and Android apps are great and all, but they are limited in what they can do.

The newer crop of tablets running Haswell have gotten us much closer to a satisfying experience of running Logos 5 on a tablet. If you will remember back when netbooks were in and Logos 4 was out, those machines stuttered under the increased system requirements for Logos 4. It now seems that the hardware has caught up to Logos. Even the newer Atom-based tablets with 2GB of RAM and Logos installed on a microSD are running Logos acceptably. There will be folks like Josh who want a low-end 2-in-1 tablet that can act like a laptop in a pinch.

It qualifies as a rant, if the subject matter is not a Logos product per se, and the content is highly subjective, emotional, even irrelevant.

e.g. track-pad off center, screen bezel indented, tips over, docking iffy --> "Logos will not like this."

I would hate for this place to become a haven for this sort of hardware "review". And Logos could get into trouble every time users rail against other legal entities. Please have respect for the purpose of this place, i.e. helping users with Logos, improving Logos.

As a fellow Logos user, I do welcome reviews that are reasoned, even-handed, relevant to actual or expected Logos usage, and pitched at the technical level of most Logos users. I have benefited from the many discussions that have met these criteria, even if there's a negative recommendation.

I certainly do remember. I still have my little Lenovo netbook. I invested quite a bit of time, energy and cash into that project. After installing an SSD, I actually achieved somewhat acceptable results where Logos was concerned.. One must be aware of the limitations, and not expect more than it can deliver. I still use it for certain applications.

However ... This new breed of processors has opened a new realm of possibilities. To expect us not to discuss it is unreasonable. [:D]

Wow...40 replies. PTL. I posted so no one would consider this as a possible Logos machine. Its flimsy and pointless.
I appreciated the kind defense replies I got in here as well as the critical replies suggesting we have had too many hardware posts.

I continue to look for a cheaper, inexpensive, powerful, "cooler", long battery life machine that runs Logos 5.x well.

I am also thankful for my Surface Pro - warts and all. (Some people are now picking themselves off the floor and getting back on their chairs).

Others will shrug and say "next" so I'll say it before they write it first.

I think withholding information...Good or bad ... would be a disservice to the community. I have been enlightened by your posts. Knowledge of another person's misfortune can help us avoid the same pitfalls. Could you have chosen a better title for this post?. ... Yes. Was it an unnecessary waste of time? Absolutely not ! What we "Appreciate" varies greatly from person to person. If a particular machine is so flimsy and unusable that it should never be a candidate for a Logos install, I Appreciate knowing that.

He simply didn't like several design features of the UI (track placement, keyboard connect method, etc). Whether it's good for Logos, we'll continue to 'aspire' for.

The Acer Aspire One netbook has only 1GB of RAM, no CD Rom drive and comes with Window XP. The Atom processor struggles running searches in Logos. I recommend you search for a better option but I stop short of calling it "garbage."
