Windows 8.1 Update Mess

Back when I was a bit more moneyed I bought a Lenovo laptop. I used a good bit early on, but it was sitting idle and I decided to update it. The first batch of updates was fine, but it suddenly dropped me in 8.1 update and so I signed in my Windows account and after the whole process I couldn't get back into my laptop. After some head banging I realized it was an activation issue, so I made another account in safe mode and finally managed to get in with my Windows account. But alas Logos isn't showing up in the new sandbox.and I'm not exactly happy with this state of affairs.

A real mess since Logos is so precious and useful to me.

Any help from more Win 8 savvy folks than I? (I'm restraining an impulse to get a Win 7 DVD and trying to blast every vestige of Windows 8 out of it.)

I am sure that you know this already but a Logos instillation is windows account specific, you have to install Logos in each account where you want it to be available.

To follow-up from Mike's advice, you won't be able to access Logos from the new account, but you should still be able to access it from the original account. Is that not the case?

I suspect that when you created the new account, You restored the machine to factory specs. I went through the same issue with the 8.1 update. I didn't restrain myself. I reverted to 7 only to cause myself more issues. If you do go that route ... be absolutely certain you REFORMAT before installing 7. ... Otherwise there will be parts of 8 lingering. They will corrupt your system. Windows 8 is useful if you use touch screen features. If not, You are much better off with 7. ... In my not so humble opinion. [:)]

Be careful! On some systems pre-installed with Windows 8, there aren't Windows 7 drivers with some hardware components. Check first with your manufacturer's support page if you plan a switch to Windows 7.

Excellent thread. I have W7 on a Lenovo. I'm getting the idea (a) don't upgrade; buy new (b) W7's still pretty good and (c) Definitely don't change your mind.

We need more hardware threads like this.

I think that 8.1 is excellent and have upgraded two computers without any problems, but perhaps I have fairly vanilla installations.

I would suggest that people should not be nervous about 8.1.

I really don't think the upgrading was the real base issue. The whole issue comes from the fact that MS let me create an initial account without it being or making it a MS account. I tried from the get go to do that, but the message came up that I could do it later. Every time I tried to do it later it came up with an error message. I had the account on my other machine. And it now finally recognizes my MS account otherwise I'd probably be toast.

I've got the machine otherwise setup for basic work and it looks pretty much like any Win 7 box. I really love the machine, so barring a probable Logos install. I'm probably good.
