Suggestion: Hardware Forum

I think one thing that came out of this thread is the need for a hardware forum. Some people don't want the Logos 5 or other forums filled up by posts about hardware, and I understand that, but clearly questions concerning hardware are important. There are a lot of people in this forum, and there are a lot of computer experts, so I think it would provide a great service for people to be able to ask computer related questions concerning equipment that would/would not run Logos, or even questions about computer related problems in general. It might get more customers involved. I build all of my own computers, and I would love to participate in such a forum with Logos users. I have also had issues running four monitors on two video cards that have not been solved through tech support or the forums, even though one user seemed to be on the right track. This could be a great service for everyone.

4 display on two cards...

I have a similar set up - running 3 on one, and 1 on the second.

The trick is using your displayport (or mini display port) as this can theoretically support 3 or 6 or 8 (my cards are rated for 12 - 6x each display port for a theoretical max of 24 displays between the two cards) displays on its own. You need to find an active adapter from display port to whatever your display uses, and use the display port for one display, and the hdmi, dvi, or vga port for your second display.

I have an hd 7770 card by MSI with two displayports and thus I am using both display ports, and the dvi port on one card, and the HDMI port on the second (for a tv, so that sound comes out the speakers).

I'm sorry abondservant. I should have linked the thread to be more specific. I actually use all four monitors via DVI x2 on each. The problem is whenever both cards are active in Logos, there is a refresh problem that occurs. The thread is here. If you know anything, I would certainly appreciate the help. I should also mention that tech support has seen the problem, and they have the log files, but they seemed to have no idea what causes it. If I go into windows settings and turn off the two monitors attached to the second card, everything works flawlessly. Tech support did say that it might work if I had the exact same GPUs for each card, but I don't want to spend the extra $200 on a hunch.

Again, it would be great to have a hardware technical forum to discuss these issues.

I feel that hardware posts fit quite well in General (or Android, iPhone/iPad etc.) if they help Logos users. The existing structure works when users follow the guidelines.

Lee, I don't understand why anyone would be against the idea. It's not about "letting it all hang out." It's about keeping posts about hardware in one place so that people can go to that particular forum if they choose and find that type of information. It could also be a place that our forum members could ask for computer help that might not be directly related to Logos. Why would you want the L5 forum clogged with that type of posts? If they were trying to limit forums, then that would be one think, but we already have a number of forums, and the addition of a hardware forum would seem to be an obvious addition.

Can it hold my whole library if I decide to run nothing else except it, maybe Kindle and OneNote for note taking for church, bible study, and school.

All good questions! I would be hesitant to suggest that there be multiple forums for hardware however, as that might get a little cluttered.

I don't care one way or the other. People are going to post their problems whether or not there is a specific forum. I thought it would be a good idea for people to discuss in this discussion post what they would like to see in such a forum, but for the most part people just agree or disagree with whatever is written without discussing, so it seems that it has been deemed not a good idea.

Logos encourages discussion about Logos. They discourage discussion about other subjects, especially controversial ones. Most forums have similar rules: encouraging discussions about the subject they exist to discuss, discouraging discussions about completely unrelated subjects.

Furthermore, Logos is a business. If certain customers get insulted every time they walk into a store and the store owner does nothing to stop it, those customers are soon going to choose another store instead.

Lastly, slandering people who spend their time helping you and others says more about you than about them.

I don't see the issue with hardware on the Logos forum.

Ever since the top-grade Vermont molassas product came out, dealing with the sticky mess has been a hardware issue. (Not counting the work-around solutions that are Logos' pride and joy.) This is something I don't think has befallen the competitor software. So really, hardware discussions should be banned from competitor forums.

Ever notice the first question to a new frustrated user is .... what hardware are you using? That's Logos.

Now, the slap-happy wacking of a product based on a bezel design, a magnet attachment, etc is disappointing though. Anyone who's ever sold product is always frustrated with folks that 'review' for no other apparent reason than it's a boring Friday night.

Just in case my post was misunderstood, I was simply pointing out that this thread had not had enough actual discussion to work out how such a forum would work, which is what I had hoped for. The implication seems to be that this is not something that the users would find particularly beneficial, or more so than what is already put in place. I was not implying that somehow discussion was being stifled. I don't see that happening around here, even at times when discussion probably should be stifled. There are certainly off topic discussions that are discouraged, and I generally agree in those instances, but the truth is those discussions usually continue anyway.

Don't be so surprised. Willard Scott recently posted on a hardware thread by Unix. Willard had his post deleted by Logos for being un-Christian or uncharitable. It was not a "tin star MVP" that deleted the post but a Logos employee.

I don't mind having questions about how Logos will run on particular equipment in the forums of the particular product. What I do mind is when slogging through the forums contains a large percentage of posts that are not related to Logos or are not answerable because they are business rather than application questions. A hardware forum would be nice in that I could ignore the whole forum but I don't see why Logos would want to sponsor it - or any non-Logos app forum.

When I suggested a new forum in the "Friday Night Fights" thread, I was hoping for something addressing The functionality of L5 on windows based touch/pen tablets specifically, Not a catch-all Hardware forum. The tablet issues could conceivably be addressed on a catch-all, but I believe the software is lacking in tablet functionality. Possibly Tablet users could share insights (Logos R&D might even tune in) without boring those who have no interest in tablets. They could simply ignore it. It doesn't seem far fetched since they have an iPad/iPhone, and an Android forum.
