TYPO REPORT--NASB95: Song 3:2

You don't see typos in Bibles very often. In this case the second marginal note is presented as a repetition of the first note. This is incorrect.

It will be interesting to see how long this takes to get fixed. Do I need to contact Lockman directly to get this fixed, or will Logos take care of it?

COMMENT: I think it's kinda sad that Logos's own website is so inept at handling pasted material from Logos. Really sad.

Well, I don't think there is a need to "confirm" this...it's pretty obvious that quum doesn't mean ssaabhabh (i.e. "arise" doesn't mean "go about"). There is zero possibility that Note 1 can apply to both words...it can only apply to quum.

That said, I checked in my NASB77 hard copy and though the note is not identical, it does confirm what I'm saying.

It says "Or Let me arise...go...search"

I did make a small mistake in my OP--I said the new Note 2 should say "Let me go about", but it should say "let me go about". In the NASB77, the translators chose to have a semi-colon after the first clause, while the NASB95 separates the clauses with a period.

This is the NET note on this verse:

Three 1st person common singular cohortatives appear in verse 2: אָקוּמָה (’aqumah, “I will arise”), אֲסוֹבְבָה (’asovévah, “I will go about”), and אֲבַקְשָׁה (’avaqshah, “I will seek”). These cohortatives have been taken in two basic senses: (1) resolve: “I will arise…I will go about…I will seek” (KJV, NIV) or (2) necessity: “I must arise…I must go about…I must seek” (NASB, NJPS). There is no ethical or moral obligation/necessity, but the context emphasizes her intense determination (e.g., 3:4b). Therefore, they should be classified as cohortatives of resolve, expressing the speaker’s determination to pursue a course of action. The three-fold repetition of the cohortative form emphasizes the intensity of her determination.

tn The emphatic particle of exhortation נא appears in the expression אָקוּמָה נָּא (’aqumah nah, “I will arise…”). This particle is used with 1st person common singular cohortatives to emphasize self-deliberation and a determined resolve to act (BDB 609 s.v. נָא b.3.a) (e.g., Gen 18:21; Exod 3:3; 2 Sam 14:15; Isa 5:1; Job 32:21).

The Logos edition matches the printed edition of the NASB 1995 update we have, so this is not a typo(mismatch between electronic and print editions). It seems you are requesting an editorial change, and that is something only the publisher can initiate. I will forward your observations to the our Publisher Relations department.

If anybody else can confirm this discrepancy in a printed edition of the NASB95, do let us know!
