On Kickstarter today, Plugable has posted a device able to charge the Venue 8 Pro AND do all kinds of other connections at the same time. From what I know, this is something no one else has. And there are still some available for $65, which is a great price. The catch, of course, is that this device won't be available until November. Nonetheless I've been completely satisfied with its predecessor which connects while NOT charging. It puts the V8P's display at 1080P onto an external monitor. This isn't the only company to connect a display via USB, but I have found it completely reliable. To be able to "cast" a 1080P image, charge, print, connect USB keyboards and mice--all at the same time seems quite useful.
I also noticed that in the last day or so 32G V8Ps are available from Dell (Outlet) for less than $150, often complete with a copy of Word Student, et al. (not the 30 day deal). Adding an SD card, I have found this to be a very functional system for Logos 5. Plus it leaves most of one's money in one's pocket where it will be available when a 64-bit system becomes the financial "sweet spot" and/or Logos requires 64 bits.
What hasn't received much attention (that I have seen) on these forums is a small piece of software called "touchmousepointer." It's free. After using it a few times, I was able to sit with the V8P and touchmousepointer for hours this morning and do anything that I wanted with Logos. No external keyboard . . . no physical mouse--nothing getting in the way of doing anything I was trying to do with Logos 5. Not even a stylus is needed to make all this work. And it all works elegantly.
In addition, my months of experience suggests to me that for work away from a desk, 8 inches is the size one wants.
I hope this "plug" for a specific supplier doesn't violate any rules here in that it's the only way to achieve all this at the same time.
In case it is useful, the Word software really is included when Dell says it is. However: I was only able to get it work with the assistance of people at a local Microsoft store. It is a fully functioning copy though. I can offer a few suggestions about using touchmousepointer if anyone is interested. As for getting the included Word to function, I can't be of much help.
To my mind: amazing value.
