That would depend on your personal preferences. For my taste, the various volumes I have consulted are too liberal. The writers seem more interested in portraying the events as untrue than in explaining what happened and what it means. However, I have derived much from some commentators I feel are very liberal.

Jack, thank you for your comments. I think I may try one out and see how it goes. i would tend towards a more conservative line but welcome the opportunity to read all kinds of material.
