For Logos5, 'Off Internet' Has Changed

Probably not important to most, but when you set 'Use Internet' to 'No', that used to mean no attempts to contact the internet.

Today, I kept seeing my CPU hit 25% while in rest-state (normally 3%) with internet activity. So I checked to see who was the offender.

Logos.

It has two periods of activity on internet activation, and another with deactivation. Of course (as usual) this is unique to Logos. My other software are nice and behaved.

Plus I'm re-booting since 'LeakyBoy' (aka Logos) is now at 2g virtual and 1.4g private memory. He's my worst leaker. Puts 'sieve' to shame. I'll be happy when Logos does their 64bit thing ... that'll let him leak with wild abandon (since that's about the best the coders are going to manage).

Do you have evidence of what functions leak so that they can be reported to Logos? For most of my work, I have no evidence of leaks but occasionally I do the wrong thing and see what I suspect are leaks.

Yes ... I reported it a while back, though I've forgotten which tool doesn't give up memory when done. It's fairly easy to detect and back in the 'tight-memory' days, was a routine monitoring job on updates.

In my case, I simply watch the RAM meter and reboot at 66% when the PC's getting sluggish (with a quick check to see who's the bad boy).

The other issue bugs me, since I monitor the CPU for unauthorized activity and Logos in its usual sloppy ways becomes a problem child.

Now, just to be fair, Amazon loaded an update on my PageWhite (PaperWhite?), and it's a mess. I'll let it go for a while, and if they don't fix it, file 13 for the little puppy. I just don't have patience for modern-day 'let's see what we can mess up this time' coders.

EDIT: This is super-wildly OT, but if you have the PaperWhite with the nutty update, and you're going crazy over books that don't delete and collections adds that give you 13 pages of choices (randomly selected by the way, just like Logos), deleting the collection solves the problem. Nutty solution.

Did you restart Logos immediately?, because it will contact the internet until you do that.

Yes. Whenever I get a book, I've got that down to an art form, thanks to you. Turn on 'Use Internet', restart, let it download, turn off 'Use Internet' and let it restart which it demands.

The 'thanks to you' is because I think I remember you campagned to keep the Internet section reasonably high in the settings. So it makes for an easy on/off routine.

Denise do you know you can place "Use Internet Yes/No" on the toolbar?

In the command box, type Set Use Internet to Yes. You'll see it appear in the drop down. Click on it and drag it to your toolbar. Then type Set Use Internet to No, and do the same thing - click and drag it to the toolbar.

If you use them a lot this will be a lot quicker!

But the MJ thread on icons has re-awakened the tremendous dilemma facing us Logosians.

And that is how to allocate L5 icons in a fair and consistent way. Did I mention how Libby has more icon space AND scrolls? Yes, it's true.

So, thinking about the likelihood of Logos delivering NA28 apparatus, versus my present choice of icons, I'm not likely to need the internet for Logos.

Plus, I think the forum consensus was 'Jesus' return' over Logos delivering NA28 apparatus. Of course, 'no Libby-books' put a pretty solid damper on normal purchasing.

There's no evidence of internet activity in my logs nor in Task Manager, even when I change preferred bible or perform any tool/resource activity.

Commands Update now and Sync now are refused (message "...unavailable when working offline").

If you restart with Ctrl key held you can upload Logos.log and LogosError.log after performing some resource/tool activity

Ain't much to look at (but I appreciate your participation):

2014-07-04 06:45:37.9244 21 Info OurApp Network availability changed to True.

That's after a restart, deleting the logs. And then testing.

For a simple flag change (which is minor, though the other apps don't bother and so it's Logos showing up), quite a bit of CPU is used in 4 sequences on access, and one on loosing network availability. Judging from the CPU differences, there's a flag reset, and then 3 other major to-do's using up an i7's CPU.

In any event, it's just something I have to remember when I'm seeing CPU bounces at internet connect .... Logos.
