What is topics.logos.com?

I noticed in another thread referencing topics.logos.com I went to the site and nosed around.

Where did it come from

How is it being used? Is it something that Logos 4 uses?

Can someone point me in the direction of some information on this?

Who controls it?

How is do you normal access it? Directly from Logos? If so how? If some other way how?

Yes, see the example above. There were at least two people involved in creating this entry - yes, I was one of them.

look up an entry or two ... final screen shot shows where the instructions are. Experience has shown that the instructions don't necessarily get people off on the right foot.

I actually go directly to topics.logos.com but I would recommend going through Logos 4 until you are very comfortable with the pattern.

Martha, this is slightly off topic, though related: do you know how or whether we can access sermons.logos.com from within Logos to do a general text search in it? I know that it will come up in a passage guide, but if I want to find sermons that mention "Augustine" for example, is there any way to do that from inside Logos? I know you can do a text search from the interface on the sermons.logos.com website, but now that I know how cool it is to be able to access topics.logos.com from within Logos, I'm wanting to generalize that to other Logos properties on the web.

And while we're at it, what about Help being able to search the wiki?! Now that would be a novel idea, and also full of awesome responsibility that I'm not sure I want![:O]

Yes, I know. Your graphic didn't really answer my question but rather confused me. In a passage guide you can only search by passage; at least I'm pretty sure of that. Are you asking me a question with your graphic or trying to answer mine, which was: is there any other way (besides the passage guide -- which can only search by passage) that we can access sermons.logos.com?

The closest is to click on a sermon in the passage guide which takes you to the sermon (or person index) in your browser where you have the option of searching on a word. I.E. not truly in Logos 4 but only a click away.

Nah, I'd rather Alt+Tab to my browser and type in sermons.logos.com and go there that way, instead of doing a passage guide search just to find a sermon to click on. Too slow.

I added an item to the "Book of Revelation" reading list. I used the "copy location as RL" button. It works fine. But I notice that the other entries are formatted differently. They have the prefix "libronixdls:jump|pos=LLS-AOL:" followed by some more information and the LLS:shorttitle. My entry created using the copy and paste just has logosres:shorttitle and a reference to the page number. Can you tell me what the other entries are referencing and the advantages of this type of referencing.

Hi Greg,

This is the older style of hyper linking that works with Libronix 3. No advantages to using it, its just a case that the new protocol wasn't up and running when work first began on this site, which MJ probably has a better idea of when but it was pre Logos 4 days and the new protocol actually didn't come into play till post Logos 4 release.

Martha's correct. They did change the name of the protocol for links from libronixdls: to logosres: a while back. All of those previous entries in the "Book of Revelation" reading list (many of which were created by me) were done before the change was made. It will depend on how your registry is set up, but the libronixdls: protocol might launch Logos 3 instead of Logos 4, which probably isn't what you want. I'm not sure if we'll need to redo all the reading lists to use the new protocol or not.

They did change the name of the protocol for links from libronixdls: to logosres: a while back.

Bit more than a name change but a good short answer. libronixdls has been replaced by logosres and logsref protocols. These can also be used as command line arguments when starting logos4 in addition to the traditional use of them being weblinking tools (http://wiki.logos.com/Command_line_arguments)

libronixdls: protocol came into play with , no prizes for guessing, in the days of Libroinx 1. I once had a website documenting the very basics of getting started with automating Libronix through the use of scripts,VBA and what was refereed to then as weblinks, which was essentially employing this protocol on web pages. The sites been long neglected but I found some service that actually archived it so the orignal info I put together on libronixdls: protocol and how it worked is still available, floating like an old piece of junk, in cyberspace... http://www.oocities.com/automatingx/weblink.html

A user moving from Libronix 3 to Logos 4 as you suggest will probably find that the libronixdls links default to opening Libronix 3 because that was what they were designed to do. This can be corrected using the instructions on the wiki at:

I had the same thought about the handling of the updating of the libronixdls protocol links into the newer protocols but don't know the answer on that one.

Edit Note: logosref and logosres are not the only protocols in Lgoos 4 there are others for handling creating links to documents e.g.

logos4:clippingscan be used for opening a clippings document as an example.

In that brief period, you can't link specifically to article headings: they wind up as page number links instead. So we used the libronixdls:-style links for all the Reading List content (introduced in this blog post but still not as visible as it deserves to be). Once 4.1 (and the corresponding fix) is out, we'll upgrade all those to logosres:-style links, and hopefully remove some confusion. The libronixdls: links will continue to work for some time still, however.
