Logos 4 machine requirements question

I sent this question to Logos the other day and they basically said they were too busy to answer it and that I should post it on the forum. I thought that was an unusual answer from a company that once had excellent customer service but yeah I play along. Here is my question

I noticed Logos 4 is out but only avail by download or DVD. I assume that since my machine only has CD support and from some of the comments on the forums that perhaps my machine’s performance would make going to Logos 4 at this time a bad idea. Is that a correct assumption?

My system is an AMD Sempron 2400+ 1.66 GHz with 512 megs storage running Windows XP service pak 3.

I would like to order Logos 4 Scholars package at the intro reduced price but if I can’t use it I hate to spend the money before I update my computer. Any thoughts?

Also I’m seriously considering going to an Apple when I do decide to update. What is the status of the Apple version?

If I went to the Logos 3 scholars edition now and then decided to upgrade to Logos 4 scholars what would be my upgrade cost? Perhaps that would be better choice.

I need advice!

The status of the Apple version is that it is still in Alpha testing. IMHO, the Apple will probably always lag behind the development of the PC version, although Logos is committed to parity. Some users are using Logos4 with a Windows emulator, but results seem mixed.

Upgrade costs for you can be found by going to www.logos.com and looking at the upgrade path offered to you. There are three paths to take: cross-grade (L3 scholars silver to L4 scholars silver, e.g.); upgrade (L3 Scholars silver to L4 scholars gold, e.g.); or minimal upgrade (only the L4 engine and most of the functionality of your L3 base package).

I think if you have Scholars for PC you can get Scholars for Apple for no additional charge (somebody correct me if I'm wrong).

If you can afford it, now is definitely the best time to buy. But don't take my word on it alone. You may also want to run your questions through the Mac forums. I'm pretty sure there are some folks there who might disagree with me.

Hi Ed,

If you want to move your license for Logos over to Logos 4 then I'm not sure what to tell you. I do not know how long the minimal upgrade pricing will hold.

On your particular hardware, you are going to see a pretty good slow down in the software, not to mention that at this date Logos 4 is missing a lot of the functionality of Logos 3, while it does introduce some new functionality. After time it may get better - we'll see.

If you are of the mind to get a Mac then you could run either Logos 3 or Logos 4 under an emulator. Or you could go with Logos for the Mac, which I have not used but from what I read on the forums is not quite done cooking yet.

Or you could buy a Mac and run Accordance. Accordance concentrates ~only~ on the Mac.

I'd not mind having a Mac myself. If you get one I'm sure you'll have fun with it.

Therefore, if you find L4 runs too slowly on your machine for your tastes, you can continue to use L3 with a lot of great new resources at a great price until you can purchase a new computer. To put it another way, in 6 months computers will be cheaper and faster, but the Logos introduction discount will be gone until L5 comes out. NOW is the time to upgrade.

Good point. If Ed wants to keep his current investment in Logos then he ought to buy at least the minimal crossgrade.

I bought the minimal crossgrade and then got a refund then bought it again because I have an investment in the resources. Unless Ed is of the mind to ditch Logos altogether, then buying the crossgrade is in order.
