Quick Question on opening a new resource

Hi,

I have a feeling that this question has been asked before but I couldn't find a reference so I thought I'd ask the many experts on the forum.

How do you dictate which frame a new resource opens up in? In other words, I normally have about 4-6 frames open in a given layout (i.e. 1 frame for bibles, another frame for commentaries, etc.). However, when I go to open a new resource, it seems like it just opens up randomly to a frame. Sure, I can then grab and drag it to where I want it to go but it's a bit annoying to do that every time. Is there a way to control which frame I want a new resource to open into?

You can drag it to the frame you want it in in the very process of opening it, so you don't have to do that as a second step. If you're opening the resource from the library panel, then click on its icon and drag and drop it to where you want it. If you're opening it by typing its title into the command line, then drag on its title in the dropdown menu that shows up as you begin to type the name, and drop that in the frame you want it to go to.

Unfortunately, there is no way to designate a particular frame as the "open all newly opened resources here" frame. Logos does try to use some smarts for where they open resources, I think they've explained the rationale before (though I don't know where); perhaps it's supposed to be "like with like" but it doesn't always seem to work that way. And anyway, that isn't always where you'd want to open it.

There are a number of open requests to change this behavior, including another thread from today that I just replied to earlier. Dennis, in theory, Logos should do what you're wanting automatically. And it used to sort of do that ... eg if you opened a Bible, it'd look around to see which frame has Bibles, etc. That never worked for me, since I use multiple windows. So if it died, maybe it died. I know they re-did the code a few months back and mucked it up even worse (which side of the screen, etc).

But you're right, the subject has been hashed over and then over again. We keep of a list of items that has to be a Logos CEO decision (or at least the top 3 alpha males), since this and many other user issues are pretty obvious to everyone else.

In addition to Rosie's drag and drop from the library or the command box, you can also drag and drop a link from the body of a resource or use the + in the panel where you want the resource to open.

We keep of a list of items that has to be a Logos CEO decision (or at least the top 3 alpha males), since this and many other user issues are pretty obvious to everyone else.

Actually since 4 out of 6 ways I know to open a resource, I do control the panel, I don't have to be CEO, male or alpha to understand why features that fail to work correctly or are completely missing have first dibs on resources.

OK, normally I'm the one that's not easy to figure out. But you out-did me. Maybe. Are you saying obvious features that have been re-hashed quite often especially by new users since 2009 should remain in the back of the bus?

When the feature is present in a variety of forms that the user could choose, yes it has lower priority than features that have been re-hashed quite often especially by new users since 2009 that are not present at all. But finally I outdid Denise[B]
