DISTRACTING: 25 typos in 1 Spurgeon sermon

Many of them are lack of capitalization at the beginning of the sentence:

what signifieth? let them turn aside,
where shall I hide my head? what shall I say
Ah! we were all so very ready to make excuse for ourselves.
Oh! we could give anything away when we first loved the Saviour
Alas! the minister has many faults
...

there are a bunch of misc. typos:

If there was a Sunday-school, however early it might be, we would be up, so that we night be present, Unheard-of feats, things that we now look back upon with surprise, we could perform them.
You used to have A that little shop once
But mark this; when we leave our first works
for they were always ready to lefend their Master’s name
the Lord breathe it upon you low for the love of Jesus.
far surpasses in power all the neologies and new-fangled nations of the present time

This was one of the most laborious reads lately, because, subconsciously, I kept looking for the errors, instead of reading with comprehension. I am glad that Logos makes great Public Domain works available but the low quality is distracting.

I suspect these are deliberate.

the point here may simply be that "in former times" it was customary to regard the question or exclamation as part of the sentence and thus the printed original will probably look exactly like that (I haven't checked this resource explicitly, but have seen the same in many books)

I don't know for sure, but you might be right. I just could not stop noticing them.

I checked a different print edition (New York: Sheldon and Company) I found on the internet, and I can confirm the above typos.

However, the other typos also appear in the print edition.

I don't know for sure, but you might be right. I just could not stop noticing them.

They wouldn't have bothered you as much if all those other typos hadn't been there.

I agree, the number of errors in some of the public domain works is really distracting. Logos, maybe you could have some sort of incentive program to have users volunteer to proofread such texts before you release them. Divide them up into chapters and distribute them around so they can be done quickly. And even do the proofreading early on while it's still in CP mode waiting around for other stuff to happen internally, so you've got good solid texts to work from once you start the tagging process.

Good idea Rosie. In the mean time, let's all faithfully report typos. Logos does update books. Perhaps not as quickly as some would like, but they are making an effort which is more than many others do.
