Christ's teaching in the epistles

A few month ago I purchased the commentary on the NT use of the OT by Beale and Carson. I learned a lot from that commentary, how the NT is built on the OT, how the NT interprets the OT etc. But it made me also think that this could be taken a step further. Not just did Christ and the apostles refer and use the OT but in a similar way I suspect that the apostles built on and interpret the teachings of Christ found in the Gospels. So I'm wondering, is there a resource out there, Logos or non-Logos, that would be a good starting point for such a study? This could be a monograph or a commentary type of book that shows how the authors of the epistles, Paul and Peter in Acts and John in Revelation build upon, interpret, further develop the teaching of Christ as it is recorded in the Gospels.

Thanks Dave! I also came across "New Testament Theology: Many Witnesses, One Gospel" by I.H. Marshall. After dealing with the synoptic gospels he looks at the writings of Paul, then of John and finally the rest of the NT. After each group he compares the theology of those writings to the synoptic gospels and other previous writings. So this would be on the same line as your suggestion, looking at the teaching/theology in general.

As far as the particular teachings, meaning quotes and allusions to the actual words of Christ, Graham Criddle makes a good point. Paul might have well been the first to actually write down what Christ has taught. However, even though the gospels weren't yet written down, there was already an oral tradition, orally sharing what Christ has taught. So one would still expect some parallels between what eventually got recorded in the gospels and the further development of the Christian doctrine in the epistles. The first epistle of John for example has a clear connection to the Gospel of John. And I'm sure we could find similar connections of other epistles to the synoptic gospels.
