Looking for suggestions on Greek and Hebrew study….

Wow, my first post! Last year I had 1st year koine Greek, and ever since I've been translating a verse a day, and doing a conference call with a TA to discuss my translations, so I'm regularly using my Greek resources in Logos.

What I'm doing right now, is my NA27 with apparatus, NSRV, and BDAG are always up in my layout. I've got the NA27 and BDAG in separate large panes, and I keep Information in the sidebar. So when I hover over words in NA27, I get a BDAG excerpt in Information, and I often click it to then pop up the BDAG section in the BDAG window.

So, I guess I'm saying that my Greek work is pretty strictly NA27/BDAG in Logos. I bought Wallace in Logos, but ended up buying Wallace in print too, and I end up using the print edition all the time. And I also reference my grammar (Croy) from class a lot. My system works well enough that I do actually *enjoy* it, but it's the only way I've worked so far.

One thing I don't end up using is Logos search. I end up relying on the references in BDAG (which work well with hovering).

I'm asking anyone who does more intensive Greek work with Logos 5, what resources do you use, and how do you use them? What's your practice? Are there importance resources that I ought to be incorporating? I have vague thoughts of an advanced degree beyond my MDiv (I'm 2nd year) and I'm not sure if there are useful habits I might incorporate now in anticipation of that.

A 2nd question is about Hebrew. I'm planning to take it this spring, and hopefully will have the book list soon. I'd be interested to know similar for Hebrew. I don't have a clue how similar it will be to work with Hebrew, as I currently work with Greek.

Thanks for replying! Looking at your screenshot, and checking out the Louw-Nida thread you referenced, I have a few questions about it. I'm sure this is pretty basic stuff, so I appreciate any patience you can muster!

1 - I see how the colors/highlights/symbols give you voice/tense/mood for the whole passage at one time. Versus I only get for a single word at a time. Is that more about helping you read faster, or more about noticing the style of the writer (like I think I remember Wallace mentioning that Matthew uses aorist more because the narratives are setups for Jesus' preaching, versus Mark's imperfect where the narrative is more central)?

2 - Have only translated a couple chapters of Romans, so my experience with Paul is pretty limited, but I've seen how he gets long and complex and kind of run-on. I see how yours kind of diagrams into support/sentence/subpoint/principle, and I'm guessing that helps a lot with reading the epistles?

3 - From the thread, it sounds like L-N relations kind of serve the same function as what I already get from BDAG? Or is that more of the semantic domain stuff where it emphasizes related words? Since I've only used BDAG, I'm pretty ignorant of what else is out there.

Hopefully those questions make sense. I see you've got Lexham Discourse. What other resources do you have, that give you all the tagging that are in your screenshot?

It is the "gold standard" for NT lexicons. You can't compare it to TDNT - it's a lexicon, not a theological dictionary. It excels in giving authoritative, detailed definitions of NT words, and examples of those words in other secondary literature. Other dictionaries are better at discussing the theology of those words, and still others are better at giving simple, quick definitions. But nothing matches BDAG for authority, comprehensiveness or referencing.

Thread => Learning Greek and Hebrew has a number of suggestions. Hebrew and Aramaic read from right to left while Greek and English read from left to right. Word conjugation in Hebrew is notably different.
