How to import Logos 4 resources using Logos 5

1) I started with Libronix/3.

2) I then upgraded to Logos 4 using the minimal crossgrade CD that I purchased a few years back (but never used until now). But I forgot to do something ... see below.

3) I then upgraded to Logos 5 using the minimal crossgrade (download).

When I upgraded to Logos 4, I never asked it to import any of the new resource on the CD ... I only installed the software (my mistake).

So now that I'm using Logos 5, how can I have it go back and locate all those Logos 4 resources on the CD? Some things I really want to access are out there ... especially those juicy reverse interlinears!

Just use the command update resources and Logos will download all that's missing on your next startup. However, maybe it's already there: Unlike in Libronix/L3 the reverse interlinears are not showing up in the library, but are opened from the bible resource.

To add to Mick's answer, it's important that you sign into Logos 4 using the same account as you had for L3, and let it connect properly to the internet. If you do that, and then sign in with the same username with Logos 5, you should have access to the same resources.

Unfortunately, I cannot sign in to Logos 4 (or Logos 3) for several reasons. First, the computer is Windows 8 and it doesn't sync. Second, the email address (customer id) I used when I originally had L3 is no longer valid (and I no longer know the old password so I cannot do a password reset since it attempts to send me an email).

I may need to call support on Monday.

Another option is to simply uninstall L5 and L4 (L3 is still there in its original folders) and then install L4 again ... correctly this time!

Unfortunately, I cannot sign in to Logos 4 (or Logos 3) for several reasons.

Before any of the other suggestions in this thread will be useful to you, you'll need to get this sorted. And uninstalling L4 or L5 won't help at all. Your ownership of your resources is tied to your various accounts (not to your computer), so you'll need to merge your accounts together (your L3 account with your current Logos account). Customer Services should be able to do that for you.

If you've previously synced your L3 licences over the internet, then that should be all you need to do. Logos will have a record of your L3 licences, and that will get merged into your current Logos account by customer services.

If you haven't previously synced your L3 licences over the internet, then you'll need to create a backup of your licences and email that to Logos. They should then be able to get them added to your account.

Once all that is done, sign into L5 in your Logos account (you don't need L4 anymore). After a few minutes L5 should detect your 'new' resources and download them. If it doesn't, the updates resources command described above should help at that point — but the crucial thing is to get your two accounts merged together and your old licences as part of your current account.

Thanks so much. I think callin and having the accounts merged would be the best best.

I couldn't sync the L3 account after I installed L3 on the computer because it's a brand new W8.1 system. I did import all the L3 resources from the L3 CDs ... but that's a far as I could get since L3 (it seems) can't sync under W8.1 (I checked elsewhere on the forum).

So I just went ahead and installed L4 and then L5. But I forgot to import the L4 resources during the very brief time in between installing L4 and L5 (by the way, L4 also couldn't sync under W8.1 ... that's the major reason I purchased the L5 minimum crossgrade).

I'll call L in the morning and see if they can merge the licenses from my old account merged into my new account.

Then I guess I'll just uninstall everything and start from scratch.

One thing to add Robert in your Libronix 3 did you make sure at some point you had selected back up licences. So that Logos servers know what you own? I mean if you are unable to now maybe you will have to get more ideas from customer service.

That doesn't matter. (If you want to import user documents, you should follow these instructions [in L4 or L5]). But you don't need to import resources.

L4 also couldn't sync under W8.1

Whilst L3 does have trouble syncing, there are no known issues with L4 syncing on Windows 8.1. (If it wouldn't sync, there must have been another reason.)

You won't need to do this. If Customer Services merge your accounts, then your old resources will just download into your new install of Logos.

That was completely unnecessary. Both L4 and L5 are free. If you want all the functionality that requires special databases, you need the crossgrades or a higher base package, but if you just want the functionality you had in L3 plus all the improvements in the engine itself, you could have gotten it for free.

Furthermore, if Logos didn't recognise your L3 account, you will have been charged the full price for the crossgrades, without proper discount for what you already owned, so even if you do want the crossgrades, you should probably return them and start over after your accounts have been merged.

OK ... so here's what I did and where I stand.

I uninstalled everything, installed my old Libronix stuff from the CDs and "restored" the license file from a backup (from my old XP computer where I was using Libronix previously).

Then I installed the Logos 4 minimum crossgrade CD. I bought this about 3 years ago, but never used it before now. The main reason was to get my hands on the reverse interlinear resources that came along with it. But (as mentioned) never did anything with it until now.

After installing Logos 4 from a CD, I went online and downloaded / installed Logos 5. After logging in, it started downloading about 4.5 gigabytes of stuff, and then indexed for about 2 hours.

During the indexing, I called Logos support where I confirmed that all licenses (going back to the very first thing I purchased in 2002) are under my current email address. And they said I should be able to see the reverse interlinear resources (the ones that came with the Logos 4 minimum crossgrade) when the indexing was complete.

Well the indexing is now complete, but none of the "new" reverse interlinear resources are there. I opened the NASB95, and it's just text. There's no "display" button at the top (which would give me the options I need to display the additional lines of information along with the Bible text).

So before I call support back, does anyone in the "L-cloud" have any ideas?

Regarding the Logos 5 minimum crossgrade, I'm sure I'll be returning it ... they said I have 30 days.

The L4 Crossgrade gives you the reverse interlinear datasets for the Hebrew OT and Greek NT but you have to purchase the corresponding bible (usually $10) to get a working reverse interlinear. The NASB95 bible should have the reverse interlinear functionality, though i.e the Display button + an Interlinear icon/button. Best call Support.

Other than restarting your PC and then opening Logos I have no additional idea. What does your NASB95 show as Support Info? I see

Well the problem is solved. Turns out, there are different "flavors" of the L4 minimal crossgrade, and the one I bought didn't include the NASB reverse interlinear. It included the ESV, NLT, KJV, NKJV and others (I checked) ... but not the NASB.

I was on the phone with tech support today and he figured this out. There was an $11.05 upgrade available to bring me to the correct flavor of the L4 minimal crossgrade.

I ordered that and almost instantly my L5 system started downloading / indexing. When it restarted, the NASB had the Display button ... i.e., the interlinear.

While on the phone with tech support, I also canceled the L5 minimal crossgrade I purchase a couple of days ago for $160. So my net for today was a $149 "savings."

I'm happy!
