Logos5 Upgrade Discounts: Gone forever OR Gone for good?

This thread is a simple reminder about tomorrow, August 5th. And maybe a time to reminisce (sp?).

Yes, the days of Logos5 upgrade discounts have been both puzzling, frustrating, and monetarily rewarding (reflecting how Logos can do 'both' with more than two).

Remember when .... you had to know 'syntax' to find where Jesus ate with the twelve? It's true.

Plus (what I regard as) the fake Bible Sense Lexicon that slowly morphed into a LN replacement? I probably made MJ super-mad on that one.

Then there's the resources or datasets you bought that Logos is still thinking really hard about.

The 'NA28 apparatus'. I put that in quotes since for Logosians, it remains a 'received vision' as Daniel put it.

And best of all 'dynamic pricing'. What a marketing moniker! And great program too.

OKaaay.

So, now we're ready for the Logos6 upgrade discounts.

Everyone's got their refresher training on not using bad words, thinking bad thoughts about Logos.com coders, and promises to check one more time on the definition of the word 'insane'?

I think Logos lately has been doing a very good job of educating people on how to use the BSL. The first cut was just that - it will take years to perfect and will be eventually a crown jewel of Logos. And it didn't morph into a LN replacement ... it was people's understanding of it that morphed. And the fact that I had asked for it before Logos even changed to forum didn't influence my position in the slightest.[;)]

fgh, yes, I'm sure Logos doesn't want people to just stop upgrading 'forever'. So maybe a rose by another name. Preacher's Once-In-A-Lifetime-But-Only-This-Month-Upgrade. Hmmm. That should do it. By the time Logos6 comes out this fall, 'forever' will be 'gone for good'. Logos6-Once-In-A-Lifetime-Upgrades!!

True, Paul. But if you plan for 'yet again' as a goal, then it can not be defined as 'insane'. Rather, unbelievable business acumen!

And MJ ... you're right. Definitely improved. And in my not-so-humble-opinion, the left side of the display is looking good, though visualization/search tools will be nice additions.

The right side still appears to be taking the wrong trail down into the canyon on a hot summer day. Like overlaying L&N greek classes over hebrew, it simply misleads. Eventually it will have little use, since it's been 'adjusted' so much. Better to map hebrew or map greek (which would indeed require some work). Pastors would eat it up and 'lay' people too. When Jesus said 'Love your enemy', probably the word can kind of slide around a little semantically, bouncing over top Galillean aramaic and landing solidly in 'Ok, just sort of try.'

Just this morning I clicked on the Logos blog, and it said '5 more days to go'.

I sure didn't want to be left behind (since today is August 5th).

Then I realized they erased a bunch of blog entries. Whew.

This is only for NEW base packages... upgrades still get dynamic pricing, but no discount--at least for me when I checked...

No 'Tweet'-y bird for me. As a major investor in Logos .. woops .. Faithlife's major competition (Libronix of course), Faithlife employees would be very foolish to slip me hints, what with a fire-someone-today CEO.

But I can always be foolishly optimistic. Recognizing how Logos5 was such a flop (to me), Logos .. woops .. Faithlife may just be planning to roll out what is known in the industry as BTL or 'better than Libronix'.

Let observe the data points (e.g. connect the dots):

- Logos has been obliviously unable to deliver NA28 apparatus (but quickly delivered NA28).

- Logos ... woops ... Faithlife has been unable to put a dent in A-Company or B-Company, instead now also facing O-Company. A major blockbuster 'original languages feature' is needed and not next year either. Zondervan has historically been just too big a powerhouse in Bible software in the Bible software wars.

- Production on major original languages products in Logos ... woops ... Faithlife has essentially gone to sleep. What ever happened to the OT discourse package that was supposed to show up last year?? Early this year?? April?? Then there's the datasets MIA since 2009, and only low level work showing up now (e.g. Bible Sense Lexicon?).

- And most obvious of all is the BIG HOLE in the Logos ... woops ... Faithlife product offering: original texts / connectivity. Copying the country band 'Asleep at the Wheel', they concentrated on original languages ... not original texts. A-Company may well just be too far ahead.

- Then (and I really hate to point this out), Aussie Dave seems to be on a bike trip for the last few months?? He's the only one that knows how to use Logos syntax searches, and probably is the only one who could help dig Logos .... woops .... Faithlife out of a major competitive hole. Duh.

Well, to be honest, I kept quiet about that data point. As you're well aware Logos 'takes forever' to produce books.

What this means, is that when finally they 'show up', huge amounts of Faithlife (human) resources become available to re-assign (along with Dave's help) to the blockbuster Logos6 functionalities.

The problem isn't the flood of books now ... it's the future delays. Just another tweety bird point.
