Anyone else noticing that the 2nd edition of Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels isn't coming up in Topic Guide? Even when searching for topics I know they have articles on, all that comes up is the first edition.
Where do you see that the Dictionary is the second ed.? Either I need new specs or I simply don't have it. Just the first ed.
mm.
I see. You purchased the whole set.
It's probably a matter of getting the resource out "now" and finishing the rest of the tagging "later." In other words, Logos will update it whenever they get a chance and when that happens the "LVC" tagging (I think that's what it's called) will be added to it so it'll be able to show on your topic guide, etc. For now, you only have a sort of "Vyrso" type of dictionary with only basic tagging.
DAL
Ps. Patience, at least you have the new edition now, rather that later. [;)] Which to some resources it's ok to have them now without all the tagging, but for others, is not good.
I was hoping it was more due to some sort of oversight in that Logos wasn't picking it up as a Bible dictionary.
If DAL's explanation is the case then it's disappointing seeing as I (and many others) paid for this resource in December last year, but had to wait nearly 8 months before we actually got it. (Many of us already had the rest of the dictionaries in the 8 volume set so by buying it with dynamic pricing we were effectively pre-ordering DJG but paying at the time).
And to borrow a screenshot from another thread, it's marked as a Logos edition:
Stephen,
to the best of my knowledge, the LCV database has nothing to do with resource tagging. It's a completely different thing and I envision it as a table where a human person makes an entry like topic x => location in resource y. By far not all dictionaries/encyclopedias in Logos (= candidates for y) are contained in LCV, it's rather a select few.
So in essence, that a dictionary resource is in LCV is not something to be automatically expected from the fact that it's fully Logos-tagged, and it's not something we paid for. Of course, Logos is - in its own way and speed - ongoingly updating the LCV and I expect it will reflect such a high-quality, presumably widely distributed encyclopedic resource in time.
On the other hand, the guide has a section topics.logos.com which we users build, so if you want to see the DJG 2nd edition reflected in guide results, check the reading lists with entries (at least 35 come up for https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Atopics.logos.com+%22dictionary+of+jesus+and+the+gospels%22 ) and add entries for the updated version, if applicable.
Ok - that makes sense - at least for topics where you need a human element.
I would have thought though that for basic topics, the Topic Guide would have been able to pull in things from fields like 'Heading text' or 'Large Text'. Eg surely when you search for 'Nazareth' you should get all articles for 'Nazareth' from resources that are tagged as Bible dictionaries - and not have to wait for someone to manually join the dots?

Not to my knowledge - in addition to the guide I use search with fields specified like you mentioned on a collection of encyclopedias, which often gives good results. However, not all such resources are tagged with English Headwords - and Large Text is auto-contructed by Logos and thus only works if the headwords are in a font with (several?) more pt than the entries. Too bad that some dictionaries just use bold text in the same size, so the "Large Text" index only grabs the title page.
Here are a couple of quotes from a thread that discusses the same issue but with a different dictionary (NIBD):
I would be interested to hear from Logos why a Bible Dictionary like NIDB has not been encoded with LCV. It was a choice between Shipping the resource now (without LCV) then updating it later (with LCV). Waiting until LCV tagging was done and shipping it then. Since there is still a lot of value in the resource (without LCV), we chose to ship it now so you could use it today. Adding LCV tagging to this resource is high on our priority list, but I don't know when it will be completed.

Here's the second quote:
Our strong desire is to make sure resources are complete when we ship them. We’ve been retooling our processes for adding topic information (the LCV), and consequently some resources (like NIDB) that have been underway for a while aren’t complete. We understand people’s disappointment when a new resource is not yet fully functional in Logos. Rest assured that integration with the Topic Guide (which will also integrate with Bible Facts) is coming soon. At this point I don't have a date but the ball is rolling. I'll do my best to pass it along when I have some concrete dates.
LCV is something we DO pay for and it should be expected; especially on a dictionary so important as the DJG second edition. But patience, some day it'll get updated and you'll be able to see it pop up in the topic guide and other searches.
Ps. Here's the thread where the quotes I got came from: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/86915/610380.aspx#610380
