I have done a casual search for a resource or two within Logos (I can find a lot on Amazon) that has the same subject as this but am coming up short.

Any help (my wife says I need a lot) on similar type of books?

Seems like there was a discussion about this on the forums within the past year or two... But I wasn't (still am not) particularly interested and thus couldn't tell you the details.

Is this tied to comparative religions in some way, or something you're planning to try?

Oh my the stuff you learn here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria says the ones pictured can be used as an intoxicant. I would have guessed they were poisonous. These are not a fungus I am familiar with since on the prairie of southern Alberta you have less colourful mushrooms in my experience.

Yea that is what Wikipedia has on their site, but it was something in my younger days that was consumed a lot and they were purple and white with gold flakes. Maybe a different line of them, I knew the grower but I never questioned him on where he initially got them. That has been over 25 years ago now, I would not recommend them to any one on the fact that it does not draw you closer to scripture or then God.

The source of them, at least here in FL was always cow patties. But anyway, in general anything brightly colored down here is trying to kill, poison or eat you. Best to stay away from something then with gold flakes or that is bright red.

Tangentially related. In my resources I find:

Looking at the book and related, I think they're a bit behind the times. Current is 'pychic healing' which is pretty much difficult to argue. Especially when prayer-healing isn't far away.

But I'm reminded of neko-chan (a cat). Actually the phrase is necromancy which of course the OT is chock-full of (pro and anti). Ghosts, astral, etc is just a variation in vocabulary. The idea remains essentially the same; if there's potentially angels at the Burger King, presumably some of Satan's fiends are there too.

I'm currently reading a book on death; it's amazing the big problem with having to kick the spirits into spirit-world. Tricky business.

Never having taken anything like that I would not know. I do know some religious systems use herbs to help enhance or even precipitate an encounter with divinity. But I am fine with old fashion prayer/meditation and the scripture to draw me closer to God.

Bright red and gold made me think of those glorious strawberries i would pick out in the garden, thankfully they were not attempting to poison me.
